The preferred candidate is expected to perform technical project activities during the project lifecycle.

You will be responsible for programming based on technical specification, perform the validation and site activities. In-depth hands-on experience & knowledge of GE control system for both the Electric Utility & Industrial markets for the Grid Solutions business.

In this role you are expected to work with defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning

This role will report directly to the Engineering team leader.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

The Lead System Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Analysis Technical Leader's specifications, identification of the appropriate solution to build the system database.
  • Understand designed systems and recommends changes when required.
  • Assists technical leader in resolving any technical issues when necessary, to achieve delivery requirements.
  • Support control system engineering tasks including but not limited to control systems database configurations, upgrades / modifications, communication network configurations, firewall & cyber security configurations and testing the control system configuration on mirror platforms.
  • Manage Fault reports & customer complaints in line with defined procedures.
  • Support in detecting variation opportunities.
  • Conducts Validation, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and site acceptance test (SAT) as System Engineer.
  • Provide technical instruction and assistance to customer representatives regarding installation, operation, repair and maintenance at customer's sites. Ensure full reports are generated to the end-Customer.
  • Seeks resolutions on hardware, Software or performance related systems issues.
  • Seeks resolutions of network communication issues at both hardware and software level.
  • Coordinate with CoE and others for Products & systems issues.
  • Assist with the internal and external training activities including classroom as well as commissioning-based trainings.
  • To gain knowledge of new products and systems. Develop and further expand technical knowledge and expertise, currently recognised industry standards for engineering ability.
  • Provide weekly time sheets and monthly reports including status of all work undertaken by the engineer during that month and any other items relating to the Services Department.
  • Maintain knowledge of the reporting system to the extent required for timely and accurate input of field information necessary.
  • Support the engineering, Sales and Commercial / tendering teams on return of experience.
  • Provide weekly time sheets and monthly reports including status of all work undertaken by the Engineer.
  • Abide by all GE Corporate and local policies and procedures including but not limited to Integrity, Diversity, Proprietary Information, Conflict of Interest, QMS and EHS.
  • Work in a safe manner and ensure appropriate training is taken to do tasks safely.
  • Report any accidents or injuries while on the job.
  • Oversee cubicle safety & good housekeeping practices of team members.
  • Ensuring that the Company's quality, environment health & safety policies are read, understood and adhered to.
  • Maintain an excellent safety mindset to assure the executed work reflects the technical requirements within GE safety standards.
  • Ensure RAMS produced and approved before performing any works.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of a BSc. in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) coupled with advanced demonstrated experience in control system related role.
  • The incumbent must possess strong knowledge of SCADA, communication protocols and media.
  • Proficiency in Windows OS, Microsoft Office applications.
  • An excellent working knowledge of database applications.
  • Experience with programming, testing & Commissioning electrical Control systems (SCADA/HMI, Cyber security, Network equipment, IEC61850, Firewalls, Routers e.tc).
  • GE DS Agile DCS solution and aView HMI programming is highly desirable.
  • Candidates with proven knowledge of GE Substation automation solutions are preferred.
  • Experience in Networking, communication Protocols and OT Cyber security aspects.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites Locally and globally - Must have a valid driver's license.

  • Knowledge on Automation, Electrical Control Systems and SCADA/DCS systems.
  • Exceptional technical skills on Networking, communication Protocols and Cyber security aspects.
  • Advanced technical skills on testing & Commissioning control systems including but not limited to SCADA Functional testing, HMI validation, Network communication tests, Integration & testing with 3rd part systems on IEC101/104, signal testing with protection relays on IEC61850.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Significant problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently within a dynamic work environment is essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an exceptional customer focus and ability to cooperate with the different departments.
  • Well-developed organisational skills are required.
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and achieve milestones and deliverables.
  • A rigorous team working approach with a high level of self-motivation, flexibility, and self-learning aptitude.
  • Flexible approach to working hours is essential (extended hours and weekends).
