What you'll do
We are looking for a Lead System Engineer (m/f/d) with strong experience in system design and operation and control concepts of HRSG/Water Steam Cycles and Steam Turbines that wants a technically challenging and exciting position.
The Lead Engineer (m/f/d) will define key parameters for system design, create operation, control and protection concepts for Conversions, Modifications & Upgrades (CM&U) & development projects (NPIs) of the complete GE fleet for complex issues and will support Product Service of combined cycle power plants, including steam turbine.
The Lead Engineer (m/f/d) is the primary point of contact for site-specific adaptation of complex operation concepts especially in the area of Operational Flexibility and plant performance improvements, e.g. fuel or time saving.
You will be providing expertise and guidance, identifying plant specific improvement potentials, preparing operation concepts and related specification of controls logic requirements. The Lead Engineer will perform sizing calculations for new systems and components and design checks of existing power plants, providing functional specifications for equipment and systems around the bottoming cycle and BOP of combined cycle power plants.
- Calculation of process parameters for system or equipment design and system capacity check (functional/performance specifications)
- Analyze plant and/or fleet specific operation data in order to identify improvement potentials for plant operation with a special focus on operational flexibility (start-up time, fuel saving)
- Create operation, control and protection concepts for Conversions, Modifications & Upgrades (CM&U) & development projects (NPI)
- Prepare or support preparation of logic and control narratives as input to control software engineering
- Preparation of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
- Being team member in NPI projects working on innovative and cost-efficient concepts and apply different improvement methods
- Being team member of the offer team (ITO Phase, Application Engineering) and/or the project execution team (OTR Phase, Requisition Engineering) for complex CCPP CM&U projects being responsible for his own work packages (responsibility for scope, schedule and budget)
- Prioritize, plan, and execute tasks for own work packages when executing multiple projects in parallel
- Accept responsibility for process and safety engineering within the project team for CM&U and NPI projects
- Undertakes Product Maintenance activities in close collaboration with the product service team
- Support product service team to resolve complex customer issues (Sub-ER cases / NCR Cases) and drive improvements together with the fleet management organization
- Support root cause analysis (RCAs) and support feedback loop on field experience into new products / product improvements
What you'll bring (Basic Qualifications)
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering/process engineering or equivalent with specialization in process automation, energy technology, thermodynamics, or system engineering or equivalent experience
- Major experience in the Power Industry, ideally field services, process engineering, mechanical engineering or in a similar position
- Strong knowledge of process/system engineering and operation for the following systems: Water Steam Cycle, Steam Turbine and HRSG
- Sound knowledge of process/system engineering and operation for the cooling water system and fuel supply system
- Analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to assess situations, make judgments based on practice or previous experience
- Good knowledge in controls engineering and/or process technology
- Experience in application of risk assessment methods (FMEA, HAZOP)
- Fluent in written and spoken English
