Job Description Summary
As a Lead Design Engineer for Yaw Systems, you are responsible for the overall design, development, and implementation associated with various components used in wind turbine yaw systems. You will perform analysis, control design, and drive reliable performance for this system that will result in safe, high-quality products and services that meet customer needs.
The areas associated with Yaw Systems includes large diameter bearings, electromechanical drives, gearing, and hydraulic brakes. For these areas, you will be part of a team of peers setting and executing a strategy associated with design processes, field issue resolution, and design tools and technology.
You will collaborate with other engineers of various levels within the yaw team, cross-functional teams, and other designated experts across the business while executing your daily tasks. The lead engineer will perform assigned tasks with limited oversight while maintaining a high level of technical rigor.

Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide technical ownership of assigned tasks in any bearing, electromechanical drive, gearing, or hydraulic brake components within the OneWind engineering team across all stages of the project lifecycle, spanning from conceptualization and design development to product launch and ongoing fleet operations.
- Ensure technical rigor for acceptance of design decisions, DFMEA, root cause analysis, design methods and tools.
- Identify and drive continuous improvement in component design within the Yaw System to enable engineering designs that result in safe, high-quality products and services by working with the larger yaw design team, CTHs, and cross functional teams.
- Provide technical support and expertise to internal and external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and regulatory authorities.
- Provide insight to Senior Principal Engineer, Technical Leader, and Functional Managers to identify technology or design needs and support development to address those needs.
- Working knowledge of Ansys or other finite element analysis tools
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in bearing, electromechanical drive, gearing, or hydraulic brake component design.

- Prior relevant component design experience/ownership in executing on the design process to deliver safe, high-quality products.
- Strong technical expertise in bearing, electromechanical drive, gearing, or hydraulic brake components with demonstrated ability to design and own engineering outcomes regarding safety, quality, and fulfillment of customer needs.
- Demonstrated ability to execute on design assessments and root cause assessments.
- Experience in complex issue resolution through analytical problem-solving skills utilizing tools such as failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), reliability engineering, RCA 8D process, etc.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to GD&T, gears, and bearings
- Experience in project management by creating a clear, executable path from high level objectives, and demonstrating operational execution rigor by ensuring the objectives are realized.
- Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to individuals at all levels of the organization while ensuring transparency and gaining alignment with internal/external stakeholders.
- Track record of curiosity and a strong passion for identifying and turning new ideas, technologies, and methodologies into product differentiated outcomes.
- Basic knowledge of electric motors
