Job Description Summary
An opportunity has arisen to join GE Grid Solutions business. The successful applicant will be a member of the Grid Solutions Legal Team and will work closely with the regional Head of Legal and members of the Grid Solutions Legal team. This position will be based in Mexico (remote working is available) although proximity to the Grid Solutions business in Mexico City or Monterrey, office of GE Grid Solutions would be ideal. The role will be broad supporting the Grid Solutions business in different commercial areas in LATAM.

Role Summary/Purpose
The Lead Counsel would be a main point of contact in Legal for the GRID Businesses Lines with helicopter view of Business Line's needs from Legal and will work as part of a broader international legal team and will have a regional remit covering LATAM countries with the focus on North Cone which includes México, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Central America and the Caribbean, as well as all operations of the LATAM legal entities in the Group. Whilst members of the international team are primarily responsible for supporting their individual regions, the team members provide specialist advice around the globe.

Essential Responsibilities
- Supporting commercial and operational activities, maintaining a regular dialogue with Businesses Lines (Business Line members, leaders etc.).
- Support opportunities and initiatives of LATAM with the focus on North Cone which includes México, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Central America and the Caribbean. The commercial transactions typically include the full range of customized engineering solutions for all business lines at GRID.
- Drafting, reviewing, negotiating and approving the strategic commercial contracts; coordinating business and functional legal support to ensure that all stakeholders are involved as required.
- Working on certain support functions, such as the global Compliance, labor and employment with litigation teams, whenever necessary, providing the requested support and information among other actions (compliance investigation support, interface with internal clients in litigation cases, etc.).
- Managing claims and litigation of the businesses, including engagement with outside counsels.
- Partnering with, advising, and training the business on a variety of legal, regulatory and compliance matters relating to the business, acting as a specialist and providing specialist advice on matters of local law.
- Working under minimal supervision, plan, conduct and supervise all kinds of legal assignments, work in partnership with the head of legal at LATAM and other regions in complex legal cases.
- Present a detailed monthly report to the head of legal, as well as support the team with internal risk review procedures.
- Provide training sessions to the stakeholders whenever necessary.
- Have good judgment to support decisions within the job.
Required Qualifications
- Graduated in Law at a top level university, with specialization courses, Master's and/or MBA.
- Member in good standing with the local bar.
- At least 10 years of relevant legal experience in the corporate environment.
- Experience at a large (preferably international) law firm or company.
- Experience in claim management, commercial litigation, and compliance investigation.
- Excellent writing and oral communication in English and Spanish languages.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Strong clear thinking, oral communication, and presentation skills.
- Implementation experience of improvement of legal operations.
Desired Characteristics
- A knowledge level which is comparable to a Postgraduate from an accredited university (diploma with relevant experience).
- Adaptable/Flexible: Being open to change in response to new information, different or unexpected circumstances, and/or to work in ambiguous situations.
- Experience with commercial contracts, litigation.
