Job Description Summary
The MPE Coatings lead engineer will support coating process qualifications at the GE Greenville Shop and GE vendors for: thermal barrier coatings (TBC) HVOF and VPS bond coats and ceramic top coatings, HVOF and dry film lubricant (DFL) wear coatings, corrosion coatings, fastener plating, chemical/acid removal, water-jet coating removal and drill-through-coating for applications in advanced gas turbines.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Complete coated component process qualification reviews and approvals
- Review GE drawings for coating material, specification and heat treatment
- Provide coating process input to non-conformances and supplier deviations.
- Complete materials analysis to support RCA's for field issues and field failures
- Support Pivot-2-Value cost out projects and initiatives for coating related projects
- Participate in LEAN projects and action workouts to reduce cycle and cost of manufacture of coated components
- Communicate project updates and final report outs to GE internal teams
- Interface and communicate with Design, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Repair, and Systems necessary to ensure all parties are aware of any learnings and issues
- Conceptual, or theoretical activities relating to the development, improvement, and usage of materials, coatings, and processes undertaken to build, apply, or shape the materials.
- Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
- In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
- Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 6 years of experience in engineering or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in an engineering capacity
- Ability to access and handle US Export Controlled information
Desired Characteristics
- Master's or PhD advanced degree preferred
- Knowledge and experience in various coating deposition processes and application equipment such as: air plasma spray, high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF), wire arc spray, cold spray, HVLV paint sprayer, and plating operations.
- Knowledge and experience in different coated materials for specific applications such as: TBCs, thermal spray wear coatings, DFL wear coatings, corrosion protective coatings
- Knowledge and experience with thermal spray coating application and operation of control consoles and fundamental knowledge of robotics to manipulate spray torch
- Knowledge and experience with coating removal processes such as: grit blasting, acid immersion, high pressure water-jet.
- Understanding basic concepts of oxidation, hot corrosion, aqueous corrosion, and wear
- Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to drive projects to completion
- Effective at managing multiple projects/priorities under tight deadlines
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability and willingness to work effectively as part of a high performance, cross-functional team to drive impactful results
- Experience with common Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, TEAMS, etc)
For U.S. based candidates only, for purposes of complying with U.S. pay transparency requirements, the base pay range for this position is $85,600.00 - 142,600.00 USD Annual. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, geographic location, and skill set.
This position is also eligible for a 10% annual performance bonus. This position will stay open on the career website until at least 10/30/2023.
*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%,120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
