Responsibilities:

  • Designs & facilitates the construction of the physical and naturally built environment, including work such as: soil mechanics, seismic analysis, and foundations for substation equipment.
  • Specifies the design and the requirements for all underground and aboveground civil works, and specifies the civil contractor for the same (leveling, foundations, slabs, etc.).
  • Also to include CW cost estimating, constructability assessments and sequencing, understanding of customer & local civil codes and standards, and the application of structural steel, civil, and geotechnical engineering principal's.
  • Conducts analysis and design of industrial structures that support or resist static and dynamic loads.
  • Demonstrates team leadership experience, leading & coordinating design teams, coordinating design efforts across disciplines both internal and external and including consultants and subcontractors.
  • Drives customer submittals on time and on budget through timely reviews and coordination with the lead engineer and other disciplines.
  • Anticipates and mitigates delivery issues and recommend changes.
  • Analyses customer technical requirements and ensures compliance to customer requirements.
  • Ensures traceability from customer requirements to design/equipment specifications
  • Manages technical interface with sub suppliers & partners, prepare input data, and check consistency.
  • Request and lead technical coordination meetings with partners or key suppliers if & when appropriate.
  • The civil project engineer is the technical contact with customer civil engineering teams, especially for efficiently resolving technical and field issues.
  • Must assist project managers with estimates, budgets, schedules, and quality control for civil & structural activities during design and construction phases.
  • Highlights scope or design changes (data for claims, CO's).
  • Informs Project Lead Engineer of design issues all along project execution and propose range of solutions for decision; follow solutions agreed up to resolution.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree Civil Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum 5 years of industry related experience designing structural steel and foundations
  • Able to travel 20% of the time, including international travel, and must comply with all relevant company travel and tax policies
  • Must have PE License in the California and be willing to review and seal drawing.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience in designing structures and foundations for electrical T&D substations. (Preference for electrical utility substation related design experience and construction practices.)
  • Site field experience and construction methods impacting civil and structural design
  • Experience with site preparation and drainage design. Knowledge of geotechnical analysis and design.
  • Background experience with reviewing architectural and mechanical/electrical/plumbing for buildings
  • Knowledge of U.S. building codes, ASCE standards, NFPA
  • Working knowledge of civil design software packages: L-pile, STADD, RISA 3D and Foundation

The salary range for this position is 85,600.00 - 114,100.00 USD Annually. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus. 85,600.00 - 114,100.00 - 142,600.00 USD Annual
