Job Description Summary

Application Engineer, to provide optimum solutions to the Customers for Products / Solutions for various Industries for involving Motors, Variable Frequency Drives & Power Systems based on customer requirements. He/She shall work in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and product advocate. He/She must be able to identify and provide reliable solutions for technical challenges to assure complete customer satisfaction. Lead Application Engineer must be able to establish and maintain strong relationships with customers.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provides technical expertise and develops technical solutions (configuration, performance estimation, economics, etc.) as part of the pre-ITO (requisition) process while interfacing with the commercial team. Possesses a deep understanding of relevant markets and customer economic value that aid winning bid strategies. To include 'ITO': Technical analysis of client need: definition and optimization of the products; scope (description); schedule; industrial scheme; cost, considering contract and internal policies and procedures. Calculation of plant, system and equipment performance and efficiency. Documentation of technical specifications & costing elements for further contract execution phases. This also includes OTR part where engineers work on customizing the products and implementing it for specific customer needs
  • Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
  • A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent. Provides informal guidance to new team members
  • Must possess Power system and Drive background, ability to do Drive, Transformer sizing.
  • Must possess strong technical background and the ability to discuss complex technical requirements with customers.
  • Reading and commenting customer technical requirements, aligning offering with scope of supply, delivering timely and quality responses for customer requests.
  • Ability to multitask and change priorities based on business needs to consistently meet and exceed customer expectations.
  • Understanding of competitor offers and solutions.
  • Providing technical support during customer meetings, product presentations and negotiations.
  • Supporting the local Sales organization/customers in determining the most technically appropriate and cost-effective solutions as well as the preparation of technical offers.
  • Reviewing the proposals received with sub-suppliers and checking feasibility with customer requirements.
  • Collaborating with relevant functions in the region (Engineering, Commissioning, Sourcing) / Global in order to identify a technically feasible and optimal techno-commercial proposal.
  • Identify technical risks and put in place the mitigation plan.
  • Identify and implement measures for cost optimization
  • Adherence to the Tendering process
  • Ability to multitask and change priorities based on business needs to consistently meet and exceed customer expectations.
  • Identify and implement measures for cost optimization
  • Drive lessons learned, best practices and standardization into Technical Proposals
  • Review solutions developed and identify opportunities for improvement of process, system, or equipment.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all company and customer's EHS policies and procedures
  • Identify and propose improvements in processes, tools, system solutions and technologies, rolling out improvements when agreed with leadership team.
  • Performing analytic and diagnostic studies to determine most suitable technical solution to meet customer needs.

Required Qualifications

  • For roles outside of the USA- This role requires advanced experience in the Engineering/Technology & Customer Application Engineering. Knowledge level is comparable to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college ( or a high school diploma with relevant experience).
  • For roles in USA - Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 6 years of experience in Job Family Group(s)/Function(s)).
  • Bachelor's / Master's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years of Industry experience
  • A solid technical background in the field of Medium & Low Voltage Drives, Static Frequency Converters and Power Systems.
  • 5+ years' experience in the role of Technical Sales . Application Engineering for Industry or any other domains for solutions based on Variable Speed Drive System and Power Systems.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Capable of working with multi-disciplined international team with good personal organization skills.
  • A strong drive to succeed
  • Proficient knowledge of Application Engineering tools (e.g. Sales force, OCS)
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications

  • Willing to travel on short notice within base country and overseas for short/long term assignments
  • Personality with analytical and methodical approach.
  • A collaborative, solutions-oriented approach, and strong communication skills
  • Note:
