Job Description Summary

The I&C hardware specialist works within the I&C Engineering team and is responsible for building, installing, configuring, and testing I&C hardware and software for I&C systems for Nuclear Power Plants. The I&C specialist will have strong interfaces with both the hardware and software design teams including plant system operations. This role requires attention to detail, strong hardware build capabilities, and effective communication/collaboration with other teams within the GEH business functions.

Relocation to Wilmington, NC is required.

  • Assemble, maintain, diagnose, repair, calibrate and modify as assigned, mechanical, electro-mechanical, electronic, micro-electronics, optical, magnetic, nuclear measurement equipment.
  • May work with prototype equipment, production equipment, nuclear instrumentation, test equipment and associated controls and instrumentation.
  • Work on machine position/motion control systems.
  • Generate various forms of analysis and documentation utilizing Microsoft Windows Suite of Office products (Excel, Word, and Power Point).
  • Maintain, repair, calibrate and perform preventative maintenance on manufacturing and quality assurance automated systems.
  • Utilize state-of-the-art test equipment and diagnostic software programs to troubleshoot and correct both hardware and software related problems.
  • Provide training and diagnostic assistance for other personnel in work group as needed.
  • Install new or modified equipment or systems and make modifications to existing systems including updating documentation.
  • Work with quality assurance, engineering and other groups in resolving equipment problems.
  • Keep facilities, equipment and work areas clean and orderly and adhere to good housekeeping practices and using good judgment in performing all work safely.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of work areas.
  • Follow safety regulations and procedures while performing assigned duties and tasks.
  • Comply with provisions set forth in the plant safety manual and use good judgment in performing all work tasks safely.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in electronics, instrumentation, or micro-electronic solid-state technology; or equivalent military, industrial, or college training with five years of experience in maintenance or fabrication of related industrial equipment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of reading and interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams, parts lists, and ladder logic.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with basic hand tools, soldering equipment, Wire Crimping/preparation, electrical and electronics test equipment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing industrial, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and electro-mechanical control equipment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience using a variety of test equipment such as Simpson meter, amp probe, oscilloscope, signal generators, programmable power supplies and multimeters.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Relocation to Wilmington, NC is required.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge and ability to work to the National Electrical Code
  • Experience with mechanical, electro-mechanical, machine motion control systems, electronic, micro-electronics, optical, magnetic, and nuclear measurement
  • Training, education and experience with electronic, electrical, electro-mechanical, mechanical, optical, and computer disciplines
  • Experience with maintaining electronic circuit boards.
  • Read and understand vendor maintenance manuals for proper calibration and maintenance methods
  • Knowledge and understanding of processes associated with mechanical, electronic and microprocessor based programmable controllers
  • Troubleshoot control systems to identify software and hardware problems
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and ability to articulate clearly
  • Contributes to creative solutions and challenges status quo
  • Proactively learns new tools and identifies opportunities for improvement and promotes their adoption
  • Capable of lifting 50 pounds as needed
