Job Description Summary

This is a team lead role within the HVDC Systems Engineering PDG team and the successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated and dynamic team of engineers working on tender and project activities related to HVDC applications.

You will need to interpret the customer's technical requirements and to design the most cost-effective overall solution for an HVDC installation using standard solutions with the objective of minimising total cost, and to specify the main (high value) items of bought-out equipment. The successful candidate will be involved in the development and implementation of solution tools and processes and standard equipment solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe working environment for the team - Identify and evaluate EHS (Environment Health and Safety) risks in own area and implement practical safety measures
  • Leadership and Functional Management of the HV Equipment team in USA
  • Ensure Delivery of HV Equipment teams scope is in line with plan (OTD - On Time Delivery) and budget
  • Ensure correct level of Quality of the teams deliverables (documentation & engineering product)
  • Planning of the teams scope of work and setting of priorities
  • Equipment Specification - create equipment specifications based on 'standard solutions' for equipment such as power transformers, instrument transformers, reactors, capacitors, surge arrestors etc.
  • Develop and maintain standard HV Equipment standard solutions ensuring they meet applicable international standards and legislation
  • Review and approve key HV Equipment technical specifications and documentation
  • Ensure best practice processes and tools for HV equipment team workscope and audit that processes are being followed
  • Ensure a 'Lean' approach and culture within the team and drive the team to committed cost and time savings
  • Recruitment, development and people reviews for the team
  • Lead the capture, implementation, and validation of tender and project requirements
  • Effectively communicates technical issues throughout the organization
  • Develop and maintain KPIs for the team
  • Lead team in solving challenging technical issues
  • Ensure work is aligned with customer specification at tender and project stage (Example: Clause by Clause assessment, Risk analysis)
  • Proactive interaction with other systems eng /engineering departments for product definition
  • Foster an environment of knowledge sharing and mentoring within the team

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in either Electrical or Power System Engineering
  • Minimum of 8 years experience in the electrical transmission industry
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with risk assessments
  • Ability to travel 20% of the time internationally and domestically

Desired Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of system tools like PSCAD
  • Insulation coordination and main equipment characteristics for HVDC
  • A general understanding of the characteristics of HVDC Valves and their control & protection systems.
  • An expertise of the use of computer mathematical and simulation tools as applied to the design of the aforementioned activities
  • Strong knowledge on High Voltage substation North American standards & guidelines (IEEE & ANSI standards and codes such as the NEC and the NESC.), local Grid Codes and related equipment (safety, application, sizing and integration). Moreover, ability to engineer design packages when no clear customer specification is provided.
  • Professional Engineering license and willing to review and seal your work and the work of others under your supervision.
  • Strong knowledge on contract and project management, Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), or Engineering equipment package (EEP) project execution.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering and substation related structural design requirements.
  • Working knowledge of applicable design calculations for primary & secondary equipment such as battery sizing & DC system component selection, power transformer and circuit breaker selection, circuit protection, control and power cable selection and rating, bus, fittings, insulator, and arrector selection, ground grid design, and lightning protection
  • Experience with HVDC projects and technology
  • Field-testing and commissioning experience with safe work habits.
  • Demonstrated electrical and mechanical troubleshooting capability.
  • Excellent personal computer skills, including programming and design automation, and familiarity with AutoCAD strongly desired.

The salary range for this position is 114,100.00 - 152,100.00 USD Annual. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus. 114,100.00 - 152,100.00 - 190,100.00 USD Annual
