The Power Conversion Rotating Machines Rugby (RMR) Engineering Team is responsible for the design and engineering of motors and generators to deliver optimised system solutions to the wider GEPC business units such as Industry, Marine and Naval as well as external customers.

Reporting to the RMR Engineering Leader, the Generator Program Technical Leader will lead an engineering design and factory team accountable for delivering the engineering, prototyping, assembly, and test of a generator to the system requirements and interfaces, program timescales and budget. The role will also have dotted line reporting of the program manager, quality engineer, purchasing and EHS.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead an engineering team to deliver the design analysis, models, drawings and documentation of the generator using proven engineering design methodologies and adhering to GE and customer standards, practices, procedures.
  • Lead a manufacturing team to develop a manufacturing and test facility within RMR with the required tooling and other equipment for the assembly and testing of prototype components, the generator and other system equipment.
  • Ensure manufacturing readiness through thorough design and planning with focused efforts on lean methodology and waste elimination.
  • Lead a cross functional team to support in delivering the engineering and manufacturing deliverables.
  • Key interface to customer and internal stakeholders.
  • Full ownership and accountability for ened to end project deliverables
  • Includes direct people management responsibility, including staffing and performance development.
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.
  • Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.
  • Support the collaborative pre-contract technical specification collaboration phase.
  • Own the generator specifications and requirements and define V&V activities for each for final acceptance.
  • Ensure that product requirements and specifications are correctly implemented in the design.

  • Ensure that the design team appropriately support the documentation, evaluation and analysis of all materials ensuring that key design features necessary for integrity are correctly captured in the design and verified
  • Experience in Reliability, Maintainability & ILS

This is not an extensive list. The role will evolve to incorporate other tasks according to the project requirements.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Significant experience in leading an engineering and or manufacturing team.
  • Significant experience of manufacturing practices in particular the design and specification of advanced tooling and equipment for build and test of rotating machines.
  • Significant knowledge of Multi-Megawatt rotating machines products, their engineering challenges and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of rotor dynamics, thermodynamics, N&V and CFD
  • Experience in planning and scheduling resource and activities.
  • Experienced in engineering design processes and tools and functional safety engineering.
  • Significant experience with Ansys and Creo 3D CAD modelling software.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office 2010+ applications.
  • Experience of BOM creation and BOM structures.
  • Knowledge of Teamcenter PLM system is an advantage.
  • Flexible approach, willing to work extended hours and travel as and when required.
