Job Description Summary

As the Engineering Manager - Shielding and Reactivity Control you will lead and provide the day-to-day management of engineers who perform technical evaluations and technical support in the areas of shielding design/analysis, criticality assessments, fluence analysis, and control rod blade design.
You will also effectively communicate and coordinate activities with internal and external project managers, technical personnel, and customers on engineering/technical issues. In addition, Maintain a high standard of quality and safety while meeting project deliverables. Along with providing coaching and mentoring to engineers in shielding design/analysis.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Report to the Senior Manager of Reactor Safety and Reliability and interact with other cross-discipline engineering managers and business/project leaders.
  • Provide technical and managerial leadership for a diverse team being accountable for on-time delivery of design products within budget.
  • Plan, organize and manage the delivery of technical activities/tasks.
  • Requires specialized knowledge within the function. Influence the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and influences policy formulation.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationship with other internal engineering team managers, business leaders, project managers and stakeholders.
  • Interface with external partners, customers, and other applicable country specific regulatory agencies, as required on technical issues.
  • Inspire, hire, coach and ensure the technical and professional development of the team.
  • Provide technical support and mentoring for Shielding and Radiological Controls team.
  • Perform manager review and approval of engineering technical deliverables for GEV customers.
  • Review technical evaluations, analyses and verifications in the area of fuel storage criticality, control blade lifetime, radiation shielding, using code such as MNCP and design basis accident (DBA) dose consequences.
  • Foster a team environment to perform nuclear/radiological analyses and related evaluations to support a variety of Fuel and Services design and licensing projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering, physics, or equivalent.
  • At least 15 years of progressive experience in engineering design.

OR

  • Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering, physics, or equivalent.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in engineering design.

AND

  • At least 8 years of experience in the nuclear industry.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to U.S. export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of U.S. person status prior to employment.
  • Preferred work location is GE Hitachi Nuclear headquarters in Wilmington NC, but highly qualified remote (US Based) candidates will be considered.
  • Remote candidates may have higher travel frequency to Wilmington, NC (20 to 30% travel).

Desired Characteristics:

  • Advanced Degree in Nuclear Engineering or related Engineering Discipline
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in the methods and application of computational neutron particle radiation transport.
  • Experience with nuclear/radiological analysis codes such as MCNP, SCALE, KENO, TSUNAMI, RADTRAD, Microshield, and ORIGEN.
  • Experience in control blades and fluence analyses.
  • Experience with BWRs technology.
  • Experience in radiation shielding analyses to support applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of plant operational support in the radiological area.
  • Knowledge of reactor licensing requirements.
  • Experience with BWR simulator and use of 3-Dimensional neutron kinetics code (e.g., PANAC, PARCS).
  • Experience in reactivity control such as reactivity insertion accident, rod withdrawal error, control rod drop accident analyses.

The base pay range for this position is $128-202k. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on 3/3/2025.

The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
