Consulting Engineers are part of the Controlled Title Holders (CTH) at GE Vernova, a community of senior engineers with highest level of technical expertise in the business and impactful influencers within the industry.
In this position, you will be reporting directly to the CTO of Grid Systems Integration (GSI) business and providing technical governance and advice to ensure that the transformers that are part of GE Vernova's HVDC solutions are well-designed, built with the necessary levels of quality and operate in service with the required reliability and availability.

Job Description
Responsibilities
- The successful candidate will be reporting to the GSI Chief Technology Officer (CTO) , working with a large team of experienced and professional engineers.
- A key part of the role will be the coaching and mentoring of engineers via on-the-job training and classroom training (such as the HVDC university training modules).
- As part of the role, the candidate will be required to represent GE in front of external stakeholders such as clients, third party suppliers, professional bodies (IEC, CIGRE, etc).
- You will also interact with GE Vernova stakeholders within the HVDC business and the wider GE Vernova organisation.
- The candidate will have the opportunity to develop innovative ideas and publish their work internationally in scientific papers and patents.
- Responsible for major and complex assignments with long-term business implications within functional area of expertise.
- Work with other GE Vernova HVDC designers to ensure that the transformer solutions available are optimised for the overall HVDC solutions provided.
- Lead the governance process for the design approval of the specifications.
- Working with our suppliers, establish a rigorous set of design, manufacturing and testing gates to ensure good oversight and successful outcomes to all our transformer deliveries and their commercial operation.

- Lead the technical discussion with suppliers to arrive at optimised and cost-effective transformer designs for all our reference solutions.
- Maintain a deep understanding of International (IEC / IEEE) and other local standards applicable to power transformers.

- Take part in the development and deployment of engineering processes, working methods and best practices.
- Enforce engineering discipline and set processes across all work tasks and adherence to company policies, quality procedures and work instructions (e.g. through trainings, technical reviews).
- Report or resolve any non-conformances in a timely manner.
Development and Industrialisation:
- Develop and industrialise solutions tools and processes associated with the engineering activities identified above.
Health and Safety:
- Identify and evaluate EHS risks.
- Set the example by demonstrating the proper acts and actively observe work conditions and behaviours, giving constructive feedback and celebrating EHS effective prevention.
- Actively participate in defining corrective actions when work is unsafe or when an uncontrolled risk is observed.
- Routinely observe routines and behaviours of others and provide immediate feedback regarding unsafe behaviour and celebrates achievements or safe behaviours.
- Actively and routinely promote the identification of hazards and near misses to their team/s.
Desired Candidate Profile
Qualifications and Experience:
- Preferably holding a degree in engineering from an accredited institution (or equivalent knowledge) with proven professional experience and technical expertise in the field of Power Transformer Design, preferably in both HVDC Converter and Interface transformers.
Technical Domain Competencies:
- Power Transformer Design
- Testing and Validation of power transformers
- Purchase Specification of power transformers
- Audible noise assessment and mitigation for power transformers
- Transformer shipping and movement on site
- Civil interfaces (e.g., transformer foundations, oil catchment pits, etc)
- Transformer fire protection
- Electrical modelling and analysis techniques
- Insulation co-ordination
- Transformer ancillary component specification and validation
