Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and autonomous Commercial Manager to join our team. This role is crucial in shaping our commercial strategy and ensuring successful execution of business objectives. The ideal candidate is a mid-career professional with a proven track record in similar roles, and possesses the confidence, expertise, and sharpness to navigate complex challenges independently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategic commercial plans tailored to government processes to achieve business objectives efficiently and in accordance with regulations.
- Lead and manage the tendering process, including proposal development, pricing strategy, and risk management, with a thorough understanding of government-specific procedures such as DEFCON's, DEFSTANS's, and DFAR conditions.
- Negotiate contracts and agreements with customers, ensuring compliance with Security Protocols, Export Controls, and Ministry of Defence standards, while maintaining alignment with company goals.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, legal, technical, and operational teams to ensure seamless execution of commercial initiatives that respect government bureaucracy and procedural requirements.
- Review and redline contractual terms, ensuring they meet company objectives and government standards; lead negotiations with customers, working closely with legal teams to address complex issues and ensure compliance.
- Extract and analyse data from internal systems to generate insights that inform strategic decisions and align with government protocols.
- Evaluate and mitigate contractual risks, establishing robust risk management processes that adhere to security classification and government compliance.
- Maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders and customers, acting as a trustworthy and polite advisor, familiar with government bureaucracy and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- Significant experience in commercial management, with a strong preference for familiarity with Government Contracts within the Defence sector.
- Demonstrated experience in negotiating high-value contracts and managing complex commercial operations.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop strategic insights and actionable plans.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in relevant software tools (e.g., Salesforce, Excel, CPQs) is preferred.
