Job Description Summary

Develop, implement, and support safe and reliable machining process solutions which may include driving continuous improvement projects, writing NC programs, specification of tooling, giving technical guidance, and performing training mainly for the Schenectady Rotor / Field Machine shop and the Large Machining Shop and Services Machining scope.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Support all technical aspects of new unit and service machining in rotors, fields, and large machine bays of the cell.
  • Participate in teams with union to ensure best understanding of processes and to ensure specified machines stay on production track.
  • Troubleshoot issues with equipment and processes
  • Resolve technical issues promptly.
  • Initiate and lead continuous improvement projects that support Machining Cell's Safety, Quality, On-Time-Delivery, Cost, and Capacity initiatives.
  • Develop NC Programs for use on Lathes, HBM's, NC Machine Centers, Field Slotters, and other NC driven equipment.
  • Use your experience with APT, G code, Vericut, Mastercam, CAD/CAMM software and knowledge of Fanuc Controllers to develop machine tool programs and train operators to execute you programs successfully with quality results
  • Work with industry tooling engineers to specify and procure safe and reliable tooling on a timely basis in support of the production schedules.
  • Develop and revise tooling and NC programs in support of cycle and cost out initiatives, geared at working in team approach with machinists to improve processes on a regular meeting rhythm.
  • Develop process workflow definition and estimate timing (lean standard work or L1's) to assist operations team to better understand and plan your processes and guide them in hitting cycle and handbook.
  • Develop build books for new units and services jobs
  • Assist and work with other programmers to ensure programs, tooling and planning paperwork are available on time for start of jobs
  • Support ME component of machinist training and qualifications as assigned.
  • Promote machine safety and use of EHS best practices for programs and processes
  • Evaluate new products for manufacturability per established DFM guidelines.
  • Implement operator training plans

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years machining and programming experience in Steam turbine or Gen product line
  • Technical degree in mathematics, engineering, programming, manufacturing technologies, or computer science from an accredited university, or similar suitable technical training or apprenticeship.
  • Ability to read drawings.
  • Strong knowledge and significant experience working in NC programming, machining and related planning.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, and organization ability.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines

Desired Skills

  • Significant hands-on experience using CAM software with machine centers
  • Knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Tolerancing Standards

Pay Transparency

The base pay range for this position is

$1215.00 to $1612.76 a week. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.

*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
