The Boiler Field Service Engineer provides on-site technical direction to customer-owned utility and industrial power plants for their Steam Generating Systems. This position is responsible for reviewing plant engineering documents and P&ID's, troubleshooting of plant systems and equipment, planning, organizing, integrating and direction of resources such as labor, tools and materials as required to complete the work scope according to contractual requirements. The primary responsibility of the Boiler Field Service Engineer is to provide technical support to safely inspect troubleshoot and provide recommendations for repairs of the steam generators, boilers, electrostatic precipitators, scrubbers, pulverizers, burners, and auxiliary equipment used in steam and power generation applications. You may be assigned other duties to help proactively drive our Steam Power vision and align with our organization's core values.

This role will work on utility and industrial boilers, environmental control system and auxiliary equipment. You will service clients primarily in the US and Canada, with occasional overseas opportunities available.

This position is available remotely within the U.S. The role is expected to travel 80% annually, at times on short notice.

Job Description

Your Role:

  • Provide on-site technical support and troubleshooting equipment performance, historical maintenance records, and failure rates to identify trends and potential issues.
  • Contribute insights and suggestions based on field experience to enhance the effectiveness of maintenance strategies.
  • Assist in creating detailed documentation of maintenance procedures, checklists, and schedules to ensure consistency and reliability.
  • Participate in regular reviews of the maintenance program to identify opportunities for enhancement and incorporate lessons learned from past maintenance activities.
  • Conduct inspections, diagnostics, and repairs to ensure optimal performance and compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to understand technical needs and provide tailored solutions.
  • Train and mentor field personnel on the operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Document and report on technical issues, resolutions, and field activities.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to enhance service delivery.
  • Contribute to various organizational functions during non-field periods by engaging in activities such as assisting with project planning and coordination, providing technical expertise to internal teams, participating in training sessions to enhance skills, and supporting administrative tasks to improve operational efficiency.
  • Actively promote and uphold safety metrics and initiatives, ensuring adherence to highest safety standards and fostering a culture of safety excellence.
  • Demonstrate a readiness and capability to travel extensively, adapting to various locations and environments as necessitated by field assignments, ensuring timely and effective service delivery.
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to fulfilling project demands by being available to work beyond standard hours, including holidays, weekends, and overtime, as dictated by the requirements of field assignments.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline OR a High School Diploma (or equivalent, such as a GED); with a minimum of 3+ years of experience in a Field Services role or in the power generation industry.
  • Ability to physically enter 18" ovalized door to access the interior of the boiler unit.
  • Ability to climb, reach, and maneuver in confined spaces, such as boiler interiors, for extended periods up to 8 hours.
  • Able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 80 pounds (via a two person lift) or 40 pounds individually, and perform tasks that require bending, kneeling, or standing for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to travel 80% annually domestically within the U.S. and internationally to Canada.
  • Must be able to hold a valid passport.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with successful installations and outages.
  • Experience and training on GE, Alstom, Siemens or other OEM equipment.
  • Working knowledge and application of Lean and EHS.
  • Proficiency in PC operations and web applications, with a particular emphasis on report writing and Excel capabilities, including data analysis to efficiently manage and interpret data.
  • Verbal and written communication proficiency, with the ability to clearly convey technical information and influence stakeholders at all levels, fostering collaboration and driving successful outcomes.

The salary range for this position is $86,700 to $110,000 USD Annual. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a 10% performance bonus.

*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
