Job Description Summary
The Wind Turbine Availability Engineer will support the global energy transition to sustainable clean energy through improvements in onshore and offshore wind turbine availability (% of time turbines are online for energy production). The engineer will use technical expertise, data analysis, and open-ended problem solving to identify opportunities and solutions at both component and system level. Deliverables include analytics of fleet availability, future reliability forecasts, and design enhancements for improved reliability. Scope includes engineering methods and tools to enable earlier return to service, to provide early issue detection and diagnostics for planned intervention, and to prevent downtime through improved designs. Impact is to deliver business and customer outcome of better running wind turbine fleet with robust availability.

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop statistical forecasts of fleet reliability related to the following: new turbine designs, maintenance of turbines under service contracts, and verification of fleet corrective actions
- Utilize fleet data to identify and analyze issues that are driving greatest turbine unavailability. Develop code as necessary to automate data handling and analysis.
- Utilize technical expertise in collaboration with other engineers to identify, develop, implement, and verify solutions to turbine unavailability in both new designs and fleet retrofits
- Support projects to ensure replacement parts have better reliability and/or diagnostics than failed parts
- Assist in developing requirements and verifying fulfillment of requirements regarding turbine availability for new turbine designs to ensure shipped product will meet customer expectations for turbine availability
- Assist in development of advanced analytics and related technology aimed to provide early detection and/or prevention of issues that will result in turbine down time
- Assist in development of standard work for lean operations within the team
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering (or similar equivalent to either) from an accredited college or university
Desired Characteristics
- Minimum of 6 months of engineering experience (co-op or intern experience included), especially related to heavy-duty industrial products, or an advanced engineering degree (master's, etc)
- Experience in driving technical projects with effective risk management and with successful outcomes
- Strong clear thinking, problem investigation, and issue resolution skills with ability to use data to draw conclusions
- Experience applying statistical data processing, advanced data/predictive analytics, or reliability modeling to engineering applications
- Experience with developing programming code or software automation for engineering applications. SQL, R, or Python is preferred
- Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to summarize and communicate complex technical information
- Effective team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence stakeholders across global organization to drive change for the better
- Ability to occasionally travel to wind farms and climb turbines to support investigation, development, testing, etc for assigned projects
