Job Description Summary

The Second Shift Operations Leader for the Schenectady Machine Shop will be responsible for up to 18 hourly Machinists and Assemblers. Candidate will plan and administer daily work assignments in accordance with cell work goals ensuring high quality results. Set clear expectations for the shifts and follow-up up with operators on deliverables daily. Responsible for scheduling training and taking actions needed to ensure safe work environment. Help resolve technical problems by coordinating with cell manufacturing engineers and machine repair to keep operations running smoothly. Ensure seamless transition of work direction to ops leaders on successive shifts.

Job Description

Interface with operations leader from previous shift to ensure sufficient information has been passed along.

Determine job assignment priorities with Production Leader or Lead Operations Leader to keep shop on master schedule.

Delegate work assignments for each employee and set work expectations for the shift. At end of shift, verify that expectations are met to keep jobs on pace with the published L1 workplan.

Keep L1 progress up to date for your shift to ensure product cost targets are met.

Facilitate the resolution of technical problems during the shift by consulting the required domain expertise, like ME, machine repair, safety professionals

Lead the training development of all hourly machinists on your shift

Ensure a safe working environment for your employees

Conduct weekly safety reviews with your shift

Work with process leaders to have weekly process team meetings with employees to ensure process continuous improvement and lean objectives

Develop a comprehensive communication mechanism for passing information to cell staff each day

Provide coaching and enforcement to the contract and work rules

Be responsible for giving disciplines in conjunction with the cell leader

Will have strong leadership skills, fair but firm approach to develop credibility, and be able to develop clear expectations with the workforce.

Interface with cell leader and rest of staff to understand cell objectives and guide your shift to them

This position covers 273 H bay large machine shop as well as F and G bay large rotors and fields machine.
