The Role:
We are looking for a highly motivated individual contributor who has knowledge of radar and ultrasonic sensing component function and has a desire to work on implementing new parts in vehicles as a Sensing Hardware Design Release Engineer (DRE). Broad technical knowledge combined with creative and independent thinking are needed to be successful in this role. This DRE will develop requirements and methods for using existing electrical technologies in new ways to solve challenges with Occupant Detection and Closure Sensing systems. This DRE will implement new sensing strategies using radar and/or ultrasonic sensing technology. This DRE performs complex assignments requiring a wider application of principles, theories, and concepts.

This is a Design Release Engineer (DRE) role in the Mechatronics & Sensing Hardware SMT for Vehicle Sensing Hardware.
The Vehicle Sensing Hardware Design Release Engineer (DRE) is responsible for:
Developing and releasing sensing system hardware components. The DRE leads a cross-functional PDT with a supplier integrated engineering team for some of our newest SDV 2.0 product launches. The DRE implements sensors to meet Occupant Detection and Closure Sensing safety goals for new electrical components. The DRE works with key stakeholders from program execution, sensing performance, and systems teams to ensure smooth implementation and issue resolution.
What You'll Do:
- Oversee Validation for the Occupant Detection and Closure Sensing System Hardware.
- Run Product Development Team (PDT) meetings to coordinate the development and integration of the Sensing System hardware components into the vehicle.
- Package Hardware components.
- Support DFMEA development and updates.
- Create and maintain Interface Control Document (ICD) strategy and ICD templates.
- Author Engineering Work Orders to release the components for prototype and production vehicles.
- Prepare timing plans that ensure all program requirements and MRD dates are met.
- Troubleshoot component and vehicle level issues related to the Occupant Detection and Closure Sensing systems.
- Generate and Maintain Component Technical Specifications for Occupant Detection and Closure Sensing System Hardware.
- Close the loop on learnings by updating required information (Best Practices, GM Specifications, Statement of Requirements, Template, etc.).
- Work assigned issues in Problem Resolution Tracking System.
- Work cross-functionally within GM, coordinating multiple suppliers.
- Lead/manage supplier resident engineers.
- Support sourcing activities.
- Generate technical solutions for new vehicle programs.
- Perform complex design analysis.
- Initiate documents to provide engineering authority and to maintain math/CAD data.
- Work with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods, and product improvements, and to support build programs.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- BS in Engineering required.
- Minimum 5+ years of electronics development work experience required.
- Knowledge of electrical architectures, radar and ultrasonic sensing technologies.
- High level understanding of hardware design and failure modes in electronic modules.
- Proficiency in writing and comprehending hardware requirements.
- High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- MS in Engineering.
- Knowledge of hardware development, testing and associated tools.
- FIT DFMEA training.
- Design or Development of Safety Critical Systems or Component.
- Opex or DFSS Blackbelt Certified or in progression.
