Description

Hybrid , reporting to a specific location where work needs to be performed / collaboration should happen (regardless this location is within a hub) and without regard to where a candidate lives (some employees may end up hybrid who live more than 50 miles away but where business needs dictate them to be onsite at a specific location three days per week).

  • This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Mountain View Technical Center three times per week, at minimum
  • This Job may be eligible for relocation benefits

About the Team:

Innovative design ideas are destined to be a catalyst to transform our automotive software and service experiences. The General Motors Interface Design team is dedicated to inventing, designing, and delivering our core software experiences in our vehicles, 1st-party apps, services, and branded websites.

About the Role:

UI/UX Designers are ultimately responsible for providing design and creative leadership focused on delivering a world-class product experience. User Experience and Interface Design is the process of defining how a user would interact with a product or service, making the experience beautiful, intuitive, and accessible.

Responsibilities:

  • Top candidates will have an innovative vision for our product experiences, leveraging user interface principles, physics, typography, and a general awareness of color, materials, and textures.
  • Experience contributing within a cross-functional design team, ideally inspiring a team of designers dedicated to delivering on a product experience or feature.
  • Extraordinary written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent collaborative skills, capable of working in a multifaceted creative environment.
  • Commitment to supporting an evolving studio culture where designers develop in their careers and feel a strong sense of inclusion and belonging.
  • Critical for designers to have a deep sensibility and knowledge of user experience design principles, along with an exceptional eye for detail. They will expand on and build out future UI/UX enhancements to our software experiences and will be involved in individual and group critiques of their work.

Additional Description

Requirements:

  • Experience creating digital interfaces for web, mobile, in-vehicle interfaces, or other surfaces.
  • Strong UX portfolio with work samples showcasing expertise in user experience design, iterative design, quality of craft, and depth of thought.
  • Open to feedback, knows how to give and receive criticism, and how and when to defend design decisions.
  • 10+ years of experience designing and delivering compelling and effective user experiences.
  • 5+ years of experience managing teams that create user interfaces, digital products, or complex software applications across a range of channels.
  • Proven track record of designing and delivering successful digital experiences.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to articulate design decisions and rationale with clarity and objectivity; experience presenting to diverse audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Solid understanding of the user experience design process, SCRUM/Agile methodologies, and software development lifecycle.

  • A keen eye: you're quick to recognize UI patterns and inconsistencies and understand how to connect the dots.
  • Mentorship : You inspire teams to achieve a common vision. And guide them when the path isn't clear cut. You know how to plan and secure relevant training and professional development for the team, and can identify how to make each team member flourish

COMPENSATION : The median level of salary $137,000 to 214,300 compensation for this role is Annually

BONUS POTENTIAL : An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
