Hybrid. This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Pontiac, Michigan three times per week, at minimum.

Global Propulsion Development & Validation (GPDV) Mission

1. Validate GM's powertrain and electric future as an engineer with agency

2. Gain direct experience with next-generation propulsion technologies

3. Ensure we meet customer expectations including safety, quality, and regulatory compliance as the independent, unbiased voice of the customer

4. Hands-on opportunities with most engineers regularly working on site

5. Develop and execute validation assessment plans

The Role

We are seeking an energetic, innovative, and knowledgeable individual to add to our GPDV team! On our teams, develop and ensure the design of our engines exceed the customer's quality, reliability, and performance expectations. What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Prepare development engines for testing - ensure both hardware and calibration are test ready
  • Create, Track and Report on calibration testing progress and issues
  • Support Durability/Validation teams with proven calibrations as appropriate
  • Develop and execute first-time capable tests for calibration development
  • Lead diagnosis and resolution of issues that occur during setup and testing
  • Develop and implement standard work processes and procedures globally
  • Interact with facilities, technical leads, calibration teams, hardware release engineers, and others to improve process and test efficiency
  • Support math-based activities, migrating additional work from Road and Lab to Math based models and data analysis
  • Train, Mentor, and develop new engineers

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics
  • 5+ years of engine related experience
  • Engine calibration experience
  • Experience with engine dyno setup & testing
  • Demonstrated Drive for Results
  • Excellent Planning and Problem-Solving skills
  • High level of oral and written communication skills
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others, and ability to establish peer relationships.
  • Ability to prioritize work and resource, and work independently with minimal direction
  • Proficient with computer and data acquisition systems
  • Experience in data analysis to optimize testing or model results
  • Ability to travel as required for offsite testing (less than 15%)

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience with AVL PUMA/IndiCom/CAMEO and ETAS INCA software
  • Exposure to propulsion system calibration in test and vehicle environment
  • Familiarity with government test cycles (e.g., FTP, US06, WLTP, RDE)
