The Role:
As a Senior Systems Engineer for Low Voltage Performance, your technical expertise in low voltage power consumption will be leveraged throughout the entire vehicle development life cycle, including requirements, design, testing, and problem resolution. You will drive GM's industry leadership of optimized low voltage consumption by defining low voltage energy consumption use cases, setting consumption targets, analyzing and driving reductions in power consumption for complex devices and features, and assessing competitor low voltage consumption performance.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
- Define low voltage energy use cases, lead low voltage system performance requirements development and decomposition, and set energy consumption targets for components and features.
- Own the total power consumption performance of complex components, such as the Central Compute Unit and Aggregators, leading consumption reduction and optimization activities across organizations.
- Partner with VDDV teams to develop modeling capability needed to estimate and optimize low voltage power consumption in various vehicle use cases.
- Ensure traceability of system requirements and targets to hardware subsystem and ART solution requirements.
- Develop test requirements and ensure test case traceability to requirements and targets.
- Analyze and summarize status to energy consumption targets based on use cases.
- Analyze competitive performance with respect to power consumption reduction and optimization strategies. Drive action to the appropriate organizations to address gaps.
- Serve as subject matter expert for power consumption estimation and power reduction techniques; support component and feature owners as needed to analyze and meet targets.
- Lead complex trade-off decisions, buy-offs, and escalation of power consumption issues with vehicle and product teams
- Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and system specifications with tools such as DNG. Track changes and issues using Jira.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 5+ years of automotive engineering experience related to embedded controls, requirements development, architecture development, and/or systems engineering
- Experience analyzing, estimating, and reducing low voltage power consumption of vehicle components, ECUs, and features
- Ability to process a large amount of information flow, identify multiple parameters, interdependencies and inconsistencies to provide both high-level systems overview and deep domain expertise
- General understanding of vehicle electrical architectures, communication protocols, and ECU wakeup strategies
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including independent judgement and decision-making skills, where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and assignments with a high level of autonomy and accountability for results
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability of leading cross-functional teams, influencing without direct authority, and building relationships in difficult circumstances
- Solid understanding of the major vehicle systems
- Deep knowledge of Systems Engineering principles and a proven track record of successful implementation
- Demonstrated proficiency in writing and comprehending software and hardware requirements and interfaces
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Master's degree in Engineering with a focus on Controls, Electrical, Mechanical, and/or Systems Engineering.
- Proficiency in Agile processes and built-in quality concepts such as Behavioral Driven Development
- Experience executing production programs through launch
- Proven expertise in low voltage power consumption analysis and reduction
- Record of innovation in systems, subsystems, or feature design: patents, awards, or publications
- Development experience with Software Defined Vehicle electrical architecture
- Experience with requirements management tools (i.e. DOORs, DNG, Markdown, etc)
- Experience with change management tools (i.e. Jira, GIT, etc)
- Experience leveraging simulation environments and plant modeling for testing or requirements generation is a plus (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, D-Space HIL, SIL, ETAS Inca, etc.)
