Work Arrangement

Onsite - This position requires the employee to be onsite full time. The primary work location will be at the General Motors Global Technical Center in Warren, MI.

The Role

We are seeking a Software Development Engineer for Sensors & Compute to join our Advanced Development team within GM's new Autonomous Robotics Center (ARC) organization. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing software solutions for sensors and compute systems in autonomous applications. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to create innovative solutions that enhance the performance, reliability, and safety of our autonomous systems.

Joining our ARC organization will provide you with the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies, contribute to innovation, and collaborate with a diverse team of experts. You will play a key role in advancing our automation capabilities and ensuring that our planning and control systems are at the forefront of the industry.

What You'll Do:

  • Design and develop software solutions for sensor integration and compute systems in autonomous applications. For example, LiDAR, stereo and monocular camera, IMU, encoders, odometry, etc.
  • Implement algorithms for sensor data processing, fusion, and real-time computation.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and control teams to ensure seamless integration of sensor and compute systems.
  • Conduct simulations and tests to validate the performance and reliability of sensor and compute algorithms.
  • Participate in feasibility studies and prototyping to explore new technologies and methodologies.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to other teams within the ARC organization.
  • Work closely with the Software Solutions Architect to align sensor and compute development with the technological roadmap.

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • 5+ years of experience in designing, developing, and integration software for sensors and compute systems.
  • Proficient in Python, C/C++, ROS, Git, Docker
  • Experience with Linux-based embedded system software development
  • Experience with SLAM, and ROS-based navigation tools
  • Experience with Nvidia Jetson and tensorRT
  • Strong knowledge of sensor data processing, fusion, and real-time computation algorithms.
  • Experience implementing and testing sensor and compute algorithms in autonomous systems.
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in the robotics or automation industry.
  • Knowledge of advanced planning and control methodologies and tools.
  • Experience in prototyping and feasibility studies.
  • Familiarity with the latest trends and technologies in planning and control systems for autonomous applications.
