Onsite - This position requires the employee to be onsite full time. The primary work location will be at the General Motors Global Technical Center in Warren, MI.
The Role
We are seeking an Embedded Platforms Software Development Engineer to join our Advanced Development team within GM's new Autonomous Robotics Center (ARC) organization. In this role, you will develop and implement software modules using programming languages like C/C++ for microcontrollers and embedded operating systems (RTOS). You will design and implement software architectures considering memory limitations, real-time constraints, and power consumption. Additionally, you will develop device drivers and low-level software interfaces for peripheral devices like sensors, actuators, and communication interfaces. Performing unit testing, integration testing, and system-level testing to validate software functionality and reliability will be a key part of your responsibilities. You will also debug hardware-software issues and identify potential bottlenecks.

What You'll Do:
- Develop and implement software modules using programming languages like C/C++ for microcontrollers and embedded operating systems (RTOS).
- Design and implement software architectures considering memory limitations, real-time constraints, and power consumption.
- Develop device drivers and low-level software interfaces for peripheral devices like sensors, actuators, and communication interfaces.
- Perform unit testing, integration testing, and system-level testing to validate software functionality and reliability.
- Debug hardware-software issues and identify potential bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with hardware, software, electrical, and control teams to ensure seamless integration of embedded software with robotic systems.
- Conduct tests and evaluations to validate the performance and reliability of embedded software.
- Participate in feasibility studies and prototyping to explore new technologies and methodologies.
- Provide technical guidance and support to other teams within the Advanced Development team.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- 5+ years of professional experience in embedded software development.
- Strong technical knowledge in C/C++ programming for microcontrollers and embedded operating systems (RTOS).
- Experience in designing and implementing software architectures for embedded systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot hardware-software issues.
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Advanced degree (e.g., PhD) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in the robotics or automation industry.
- Proficiency with Matlab and Simulink
- Experience with developing device drivers and low-level software interfaces.
- Knowledge of power management and optimization techniques for embedded systems.
