Description

Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three days per week, at minimum.

The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated technical leader for the Senior Software System Architect role within the Embedded Platform Steering Products team. The successful candidate will support the Vehicle Motion Embedded Control (VMEC) organization as a high-performing Software System Architect (SWSA). The SWSA will act as a bridge between the strategic and tactical aspects of VMEC software products in an agile environment. Responsibilities include providing leadership in areas such as software architecture, requirements, design, construction, testing, maintenance, quality, and computing infrastructure. The SWSA will be responsible for the overall software architecture and ensuring it meets stakeholder requirements.

What you will do

  • Drive system-level analysis for software solutions being developed across the organization.
  • Own and lead the development of the software architecture by incorporating interdisciplinary knowledge from internal and external subject matter experts.
  • Promote software architecture discipline and principles throughout the organization.
  • Enhance software quality through initiatives such as code complexity analysis, software peer reviews, and controller resource reductions.
  • Review existing software to assess the need for restructuring to improve quality, maintainability, reusability, or other enhancements.
  • Establish standards for models and code within the organization to align with optimal software architecture practices.
  • Troubleshoot code to identify design deficiencies and develop solutions to address them.
  • Coordinate and consult with departments outside VMEC, such as Systems & Safety Engineering and Electrical Architecture.
  • Deepen knowledge of software, software quality, and software architecture within VMEC, while staying current on trends in software engineering, quality, architecture, and development processes.
  • Mentor and coach software engineers on topics including software architecture, software engineering best practices, and the software engineering lifecycle.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Travel as required to the US.

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics, Software, Electrical, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in the job-related area with 5+ years of experience.
  • Proficient in C programming language or equivalent, as well as experience with auto-code generation from Simulink models.
  • Experience in architecture design, controller resource utilization reduction, etc.
  • Knowledge of MISRA C and CERT C Guidelines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively in a geographically dispersed team.
  • Must possess a valid Canadian driver's license.

What Can Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master's Degree in Mechatronics, Software, Electrical, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) certification or experience working in an agile environment
  • Experience with the GM embedded software development tool chain
  • Familiarity with SDV
  • Experience with testing methods and techniques, Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD)
  • Experienced in controls systems development for real-time embedded systems and vehicle steering systems
