Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report onsite at the GM Global Technical Center (Warren, MI) or the Milford Proving Grounds (Milford, MI) at least two times per week minimum or other frequency dictated by the business.

About the Role

General Motors is seeking an experienced security leader to join our team as Senior Manager, Security Education and Awareness. As a global leader in the automotive industry, General Motors is committed to delivering high-quality vehicles that exceed customer expectations. The Senior Manager, Security Education and Awareness is responsible for defining, building, and executing the comprehensive set of security training, awareness, engagement, and culture activities necessary to assure that GM is secure, compliant, and promotes an engaged workforce that understands and supports the security needs of the business, our partners, and customers. Responsibilities include ownership over annual and periodic security training, planning and executing internal and external security events, managing GM's engagement in strategic security forums such as major conferences and industry working groups, and culture-building security experiences. This role reports directly to the Vice President, Chief Information Security Officer.

  • Leadership & Team Management: Lead, guide, and direct a small team responsible for delivering outputs such as annual training, function/area/topic-specific security training and awareness content relevant to a specific space, executing security events (hackathons, etc.) and more


  • Technical Oversight: Provide leadership to the team, ensuring high-quality deliverables that support business objectives and employee engagement. The ideal candidate is a strong background in creating security training and experiences that is engaging, interactive, exciting, and inspiring.


  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Interact and collaborate with various teams across multiple functions to ensure smooth integration and alignment, especially Communications teams, auditors, GRC team members, and Legal / Compliance.


  • Innovation & Initiative: Lead the team in adopting new methods, technologies, or initiatives, even in the absence of established procedures.


  • Target Achievement: Guide the team to meet or exceed performance and delivery targets.


  • Communication: Conduct regular team meetings, communicate corporate policies and procedures, leadership directives, and safety messages.


  • Vision & Strategy: Develop and communicate a vision and strategy specific to functional responsibilities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.


  • Performance Management: Review deliverables, provide constructive feedback, and conduct performance interventions when necessary. Administer compensation plans and participate in compensation discussions.

Specific job responsibilities include:

  • Drive the prioritization for major security engagement and awareness events (annual training, topic-specific training, etc.)


  • Independently identify training, awareness, and engagement needs and develop approaches to fund and execute programs against high priority opportunities.


  • Source and/or develop novel content specific to GM's needs that is high quality, engaging, and inspires action.

Additional Description

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering, communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).


  • 12+ years of experience in security-related disciplines


  • Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.


  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a keen attention to detail.


  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.


  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.


  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills
