This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidates is expected to report to the Tech Center in Warren, MI on a full-time basis

The Role

The General Motors Design organization is transforming the future of transportation and mobility solutions. This is an incredible opportunity to be part of a team that is impacting the future of young people, as well as building the diverse talent pipeline for GM Design!

We are seeking a computational design and parametric modeling expert to drive the development of advanced workflows, innovation, and training throughout the GM design community using NX Algorithmic Modeling, Rhino, Grasshopper, Alias, Dynamo software, and other software. In this role, you will contribute to problem solving with design and engineering partners. You will provide technical expertise and guidance to cross functional studio teams.

What You'll Do:

  • Exhibits a safety mindset while identifying, taking ownership, and resolving safety concerns
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the use of Computational Design and algorithms to build complex sculpted surfaces for both conceptual, pre-production, and production purposes
  • Mentors sculptors on the use, theory, and implementation of Computational Design
  • Builds cross-platform hybrid workflows to generate high quality patterns using NURBS, NX Solid Modeling and Subdivisional surfaces to achieve Design's themes
  • Develops innovative workflows, tools, and process for integration of Computational Design strategies into the overall vehicle design process
  • Collaborates in the development of advanced surfacing through the creation of branded textures and patterns
  • Creates vehicle exterior and interior themes using digital sculpting tools and form development
  • Highly adept at balancing workloads to accommodate program needs across multiple studios
  • Enables opportunities for collaboration to accomplish organizational goals
  • Develop high quality aesthetic surfaces for digital models throughout the GVDP
  • Assist in Testing, Developing common GM Global Design processes, and Best Practices
  • Frequently assists studio personnel in developing solutions to engineering and design problems
  • Adhere to and reinforce corporate data management processes (Teamcenter, SharePoint, PDM, etc.) and communication systems (timekeeping, email, etc.)
  • Active participant in studio and patio reviews. Contributes expert aesthetic judgement with the studio design team by offering 3D solutions

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) :

  • Demonstrates the courage to make the changes that will improve the organization and helps others overcome their resistance to change
  • Approachable to others and builds an internal network and quickly escalates to leadership any personnel conflicts that arise
  • Strong ability for estimating timing requirements for GVDP model execution
  • Expertise in the use of computational software, i.e. Alias, NX, Rhino, Grasshopper, Dynamo
  • Proficient in the use of current office software (Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.) with strong ability to create presentations/communication documentation
  • Seeks opportunities for innovation by executing on latest ideas and implementing continuous improvement initiatives
  • Bachelor's degree preferred/equivalent industry related experience considered
  • Advanced scripting and computer programming knowledge on Python or C# are preferred.
