Description

Hybrid: Reporting to a specific location where work needs to be performed / collaboration should happen (regardless this location is within a hub) and without regard to where a candidate lives (some employees may end up hybrid who live more than 50 miles away but where business needs dictate them to be onsite at a specific location three days per week).

  • This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Warren Technical Center- Sloan Engineering Building and Milford Proving Grounds three times per week, at minimum.
  • This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.

About the Role:

As an expert contributor in Human Factors Research, you will provide strategic research guidance, and Human Factors knowledge and expertise to the global GM research community. You will be responsible for the development and continuous improvement of the team's skillset using your highly specialized knowledge in Human Factors Engineering techniques, methods, and principles. As we are a data driven team, you will be responsible for maintaining excellence and providing continuous improvement in both quantitative and qualitative data analysis and visualization techniques. You will help enable the team to produce scientifically valid research results while helping to distill these insights into easily digestible reports. You will stay at the cutting edge of Human Factors engineering principles, research design, tools, and statistical analysis techniques and act as a subject matter expert in your area of expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a roadmap to maintain a high level of Human Factors research expertise on the research team through guidance, mentoring, teaching, and training.
  • Identify technical skill or knowledge gaps and develop roadmaps to increase the overall skillset of the research team.
  • Provide expert guidance and mentoring on research study plan development, with a focus on high validity (external and internal), safety and understanding unintended consequences.
  • Provide expert guidance and training on statistical methods. Understand when to use which methods and principles for collecting, summarizing, and analyzing data.
  • Understand quantitative and qualitative research techniques and be able to identify and provide guidance on which technique best fit the research request.
  • Provide guidance on study planning, recruitment, tool, and demographic selection.
  • Review and provide feedback on all study reports with a focus on maintaining a high level of output as it relates to validity, clarity, and recommendations.
  • Drive future tools analysis and development, including VR/MR/AR/Biometrics/Simulators. Develop a method to identify the correct tool for the research question at hand. Stay up to date on the cutting edge of future tools research.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest Human Factors research methodologies, statistical analysis, etc.. and provide continuous training to the team with a focus on continuously leveling up the team
  • Keen ability to identify issues and problems, generate solutions and choose appropriate alternatives through use of user research methods.
  • Benchmark competition/features/ technologies/ requirements/ guidelines to be a leader in rapidly changing environment.

Additional Description

Required Qualifications:

  • Subject matter expert in Human Factors with emphasis on research principles and practices.
  • Subject matter expert in statistics, statistical tools, and analytics as it relates to research.
  • Proven track record in all aspects of Human Factors research (i.e., recruiting, methodology and metrics development, test plans, analysis, reporting results)
  • Proven track record of coaching and educating team members.
  • Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent collaboration and facilitation skills
  • Practical experience leading and influencing internal team members and external partners/collaborators.
  • Ability to lead change in a positive and organized method with clear and confident communication.

Required Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in related subject area
  • 10+ years of experience in field of Human Factors Research
  • 10+ years of experience in the application of statistics
  • Design for Six Sigma Black Belt certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. or Ph.D in Human Factors/System Engineering, Industrial or other Engineering field with a focus on Human Factors
  • Experience teaching Human Factors research methodologies and/or statistics
