This role is categorized as remote. This means the successful candidate may be based anywhere in the United States and is not expected to report to a GM worksite unless directed by their manager .
The Role
The Northwest Regional Manager of State & Local Public Policy will be responsible for policy development and advocacy within their region, including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, and South Dakota. In this role, the new hire will be part of a dynamic team advocating for GM's business interests, implementing strategies, strengthening critical relationships with government officials and their staff, and working aggressively and strategically on multiple issues of critical importance to GM. This position is responsible for operating and managing state government relations in the assigned region, working with each respective state's executive and legislative branches, key regulatory committees, and other stakeholders on all related activity.

In this role, the individual will report to a Public Policy Director and collaborate with the larger Public Policy team and vital business functions to develop and execute strategic advocacy plans, serving as a corporate ambassador on leading issues impacting the future of transportation technology and vehicle manufacturing.
What You'll Do
- Build and maintain relationships with state government officials.
- Grow relationships with business groups, policy organizations, and trade associations that are key to the company's future.
- Advocate for public policies and regulations that align with the company's overall interests.
- Lead advocacy initiatives and execute planning and strategy on several substantial issues favorable to the automotive industry and GM.
- Provide sound counsel and support to GM's senior leadership, with a focus on GM's future success in the U.S.'s legislative and regulatory climate.
- Conduct and manage public relations activities and outreach to public officials, with a specific focus on policymakers with ties to GM and whose districts include GM plants and facilities.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
- 5-10 years of Government Relations/Legislative Staff/Public Policy/Lobbying experience
- Accomplished oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with significant attention to detail
- Ability to drive strategy on critical issues of importance to GM
- Ability to initiate and proactively identify opportunities to better position GM with critical internal and external constituencies and to identify and mitigate challenges to the company
- Keen political acumen and sound political judgement
- Ability to self-manage, take initiative, balance multiple priorities, and develop creative approaches to public policy challenges and opportunities
- High level of attention to detail
- Be results-driven and act with acute political sensitivity
- Demonstrated strength in working collaboratively as part of a high-functioning team
- Ability to travel 10-20% of the time within the United States
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience in Government Relations/Legislative Staff/Public Policy/Lobbying experience in Northwest region (Washington State or Oregon)
- Background/expertise in transportation, sustainability, and environmental issues is a plus
- Attention to detail, be results driven and act with acute political sensitivity
- Capable of understanding how various public policy issues impact the automobile industry and GM's particular business model
- A company vehicle will be provided for this role with successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Report review.

Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington.
- The salary range for this role is $156,200 to $239,300. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
- Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
