On-site: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Factory Zero on a full-time basis and the ability to rotate shifts.

The Role:

Unique opportunity to work at General Motors Factory Zero RESS Assembly Plant. Electrified propulsion is a rapidly developing area of automotive engineering, deploying multiple cutting-edge systems and features. The Quality Engineer position is responsible to Define, Contain, Root Cause, and Eliminate associated Safety, Quality, and Throughput issues in RESS systems identified by vehicle customers or within the assembly plant.

What You'll Do:

Safety

  • Follow all site and corporate Safety Guidelines
  • Urgently resolve identified Safety and Ergonomic Issues

People

  • Develop Quality related and professional skill set through attainment of Red X Technical Problem Solving and Design For Six Sigma (DFSS) certification, Built In Quality (BIQ) & Global Manufacturing System (GMS) compliance, Quality skills assessment completion, and other professional certifications
  • Lead and coach Red X Technical Problem Solving methodologies for Manufacturing Teams
  • Develop and implement Workplace of Choice initiatives
  • Maintain Workplace Organization standards

Quality

  • Act as primary liaison between engineering, supplier, and manufacturing to ensure quality and reliability
  • Provide response to all commodity Supplier Action Center and manufacturing floor issues
  • Coordinate containment, repair, rework, and permanent corrective action activities for identified supplier and engineering quality concerns
  • Communicate Emerging Issue Summaries for responsible components
  • Support quality containments and develop inspection methods and standards
  • Ensure supplier responsible issues are documented in Supplier Practical Problem Solving (SPPS) system, and coordinate with Manufacturing, Supplier, and GM Supplier Quality teams for issue resolution
  • Initiate and resolve required supplier Controlled Shipping activities
  • Validate Suspect Reject part disposition from Manufacturing Teams
  • Request Temporary Engineering Changes from Product Engineering as required to support Assembly Plant
  • Document issues in Problem Resolution Tracking System (PRTS) and drive resolution though the Current Product Improvement Team (CPIT) Process
  • Participate in the plant Change Management process
  • Support the Production Trial Run (PTR) process, documenting product concerns and providing Pass/Fail feedback
  • Facilitate all Supplier Visits to Manufacturing Facility
  • Communicate Lessons Learned to Engineering and Validation Teams
  • Support Launch activities for all future programs beginning at the first Manufacturing Build

Responsiveness

  • Support timely containment and resolution of supplier and engineering related plant floor Ergonomics and Manufacturing Quality issues
  • Attendance of manufacturing Quality issue review meetings (support as required)
  • Assigned Problem Resolution Tracking System (PRTS) Issues to be completed through Root Cause and Irreversible Corrective Action per assigned timing targets
  • Attend Quality Engineering Team standard meetings

Cost

  • Champion assigned Warranty reduction initiatives
  • Identify, investigate, and implement Manufacturing cost savings opportunities
  • Document and execute Supplier Cost Recovery charges for financial impact associated with Supplier Quality issues

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other related technical discipline
  • 1+ years of experience in Quality, Engineering Process or Controls Engineering within a manufacturing environment
  • Highly developed oral and written communications skills
  • High level of analytical and decision-making abilities where problems are unusual and difficult
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  • Must be able to work a rotating shift

  • Dimensional, GD&T, and Part Data Analysis proficiency
  • Knowledge of a high-volume manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related areas
