The Role:
The Product Cybersecurity Engineer will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing GM's product cybersecurity posture, with a focus on Secure Diagnostics, Secure Unlock, Firewall Policy, and IME security design.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
- Author and evolve existing GM's security design specifications.
- Lead the design and firewall specifications and maintain the firewall policy.
- Lead secure unlock, diagnostics, and IME security requirements across all the in-vehicle architectures.
- Design security countermeasures and risk mitigation strategies for in-vehicle systems.
- Support the team and provide guidance/direction on secure designs and best practices.
- Guide joint venture parties to secure diagnostic implementations.
- Comprehend and influence regional diagnostic policy and compliance.
- Ensure diagnostic functions are consistent with mandated right-to-repair requirements.
- Ensure all in-vehicle security measures comply with industry standards and best practices and relevant regulations.
- Stay abreast on research and publications to assess the impact on GM products and drive design enhancements as necessary.
- Stay abreast of embedded security trends, technologies, and best practices and determine applicability to the organization.
- Provide guidance and direction for designing secure authentication and authorization controls for third-party tools.
- Occasional local/domestic/international travel to other GM facilities and supplier sites. 5-10%.

Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or relevant discipline.
- Experience steering in-depth security design based on threat modeling and ISO 21434.
- Knowledge in one or more of the following languages: C, C++, Python, or Java.
- Solid computer security fundamentals (applied crypto, protocols, authentication/authorization).
People Skills:
- Effective people, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- 5+ years experience working on securing automotive products.
- Knowledge of in-vehicle communication protocols such as CAN, UDS, SOME/IP, Ethernet, etc.
