Onsite - This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Flint, Michigan, on a full-time basis.

The Role

As a Launch Controls Engineer , you will play a vital role in implementing robust machining controls processes. You will be responsible for writing and troubleshooting machine logic, qualifying OEM equipment, and working closely with OEM equipment vendors, GM IT, various engineering disciplines, and management throughout the build and install phases.

What You'll Do

  • Provide daily support of launch operations with a strong emphasis on personnel and equipment safety, process quality, and uptime, while prioritizing automation and controls.
  • Offer technical and engineering support to assist production and maintenance in troubleshooting equipment and process failures, and collaborate with skilled trades personnel as needed.
  • Identify and execute projects that align with departmental business objectives and drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, cost, and reliability.
  • Ensure that new and existing equipment meets operational requirements and adheres to appropriate standards, including GM Safety and Controls standards.
  • Provide guidance to maintenance and production teams, offering technical troubleshooting, direction, and safety counsel.
  • Ensure that proper documentation, such as drawings and manuals, is available and well-maintained for all equipment in the assigned area.
  • Collaborate with others to develop maintenance standard operating procedures (SOPs) and task instruction sheets (TIS).
  • Identify opportunities for technical training and knowledge transfer among Controls Engineers and Maintenance Teams.
  • Keep management informed of the current status and emerging trends in areas of expertise, including equipment standards, legislative requirements, and GM Requirements.

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 1-2 years of controls engineering experience.
  • Flexibility to work daily overtime and weekends as scheduled, and the potential for off-shift work when required.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge

  • Demonstrated experience developing / troubleshooting controls logic for CNC, ancillary, leak test, plug install, and wash equipment.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation or Siemens PLCs and HMIs.
  • Familiar with Fanuc Robot programming.
  • Cognex or Matrox Vision System Programming.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and various machining processes.
