Work Arrangement
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum.
The Role
You will provide strategic leadership of the Fire Prevention and Protection activities for all GM global sites including oversight of compliance with relevant federal, state, and local laws.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provides strategic direction, quality assurance and subject matter expertise for GM's Global Fire Prevention and Protection Program.
- Leads the Fire Prevention and Protection Team and provides direction to the team on strategic goals to further enhance risk mitigation.
- Supports development and coordination of enterprise-wide strategic goals and objectives impacting fire prevention and protection.
- Maintains and develops GM's Global Fire Prevention and Protection standards and supporting material.
- Provides technical expertise and subject matter guidance to GM and supplier personnel to ensure compliance with GM standards for fire protection design, installation, and demolition.
- Provides Subject Matter Expertise on fire protection related to lithium-ion and other new technologies to ensure compliance with evolving requirements and application of best practices.
- Facilitates timely resolution of non-compliance issues.
- Liaises with GM stakeholders, including but not limited to the following, to interpret or resolve conflicts pertaining to fire protection standards or policy:

Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor of Science or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in the Fire Prevention and Protection consulting engineering and problem solving.
- Minimum of 5 years experience managing a global team.
- Familiarity with industrial fire protection standards and methods.
- Proven experience in the following:
- Assessing fire protection requirements.
- Interpreting local laws, regulations and codes including National Fire Protection Association Codes, Factory Mutual Data Sheets, and the International Fire Code.
- Reviewing building and site plans, fire suppression and detection systems.
- Performing engineering computations (hydraulic calculations).
- Experience in writing technical procedures.
- Excellent planning and organizing skills.
- Strong negotiating skills.
- Proven track record in successfully influencing others using skills such as active listening, empathy and communication.
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
- Ability to build trust and rapport and to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.
