Hybrid - This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan three times per week, at minimum.
The Role
The EV Battery Sustainability Engineer will support development of GM's battery sustainability strategy and its implementation. You will assist in identifying, prioritizing and rigorously evaluating risks and opportunities along the value chain of the electric vehicle (EV) battery life cycle, inclusive of end-of-life (EoL) opportunities. This includes understanding markets, business model evaluation relating to battery life cycle, partnering with internal and external subject matter experts to support the development of a data-driven approach to assess opportunities and help identify implementation paths. Selected candidate will work with cross-functional teams to develop and execute battery lifecycle strategies for manufacturing, service, and end-of-life batteries to meet General Motors aggressive sustainability and Zero-Zero-Zero goals.

What You'll Do
- Support the development, analysis, communication and implementation of battery lifecycle strategies
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to evaluate technical and business solutions against corporate, policy and customer requirements
- Work with purchasing to develop statements of work and support the request for quote processes for EV battery end-of-life services
- Keep abreast of technical and business trends associated with EoL EV battery markets and provide critical analysis to help identify pros and cons of various approaches
- Keep abreast of key players and competitive landscape in end-of-life EV battery markets - capabilities, geographical reach, technology
- Support recycled battery material evaluations in collaboration with internal team and external partners
- Support Lifecycle and Innovation Business Case Development
- Support International analysis of battery lifecycle elements
- Assist team in developing EV battery sustainability criteria
- Support internal and external communications needs
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Environmental or Manufacturing or equivalent experience
- Expertise in high voltage EV batteries and technical as well as business aspects of battery life cycle
- Demonstrated capability to develop business cases for decisions requiring technical, logistical, regulatory, manufacturing and supplier inputs.
- Demonstrated capability of working in large cross-functional teams, as well as the ability to work independently
- High level of flexibility and adaptability with a desire to work in a complex, ambiguous and evolving environment. Ability to think critically, tactically and strategically
- Strong communication skills: Ability to clearly translate and deliver complex data and stories into concise messages to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to influence without direct reporting relationship

- Modeling skills (financial and/or technical)
- Master's Degree in Business, Engineering, Environmental, or Manufacturing
