Engineering Group Manager - Embedded Data Recording

Description

Hybrid: This position is classified as a Hybrid position, meaning the successful candidate will work at either Markham (MEC) or Oshawa (OEC) three (3) days per week.

The Role

General Motors' Data Engineering team is seeking an experienced and passionate Engineering Manager. In this role, you will be instrumental in steering the development and architecture of embedded data recording technology. Leading a talented team of software developers and engineers, you will ensure our embedded data products are executed efficiently and effectively, aligning with our vision for the future of data. You will also actively contribute to the code base as necessary. Reporting directly to the Director of Device Data Capture, you will work closely with product and program management teams to define features and requirements for both new and existing products.

What You'll Do:

  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to a small team of embedded developers, ensuring alignment with project goals and objectives.
  • Embedded Systems Development: Lead the design, optimization, integration, and production deployment of data recording constructs, ensuring seamless operation and minimal resource utilization.
  • Embedded Software Development: Actively contribute to the development of high-quality, scalable embedded software solutions in C/C++ or other relevant languages, with a focus on Fluent Bit integration and customization.
  • Results Orientation: Actively support your team to build and develop products with high code coverage and quality, meeting the requirements set by the product team. Test and validate products with your internal customers both on bench and in vehicle.
  • People Development: Provide career guidance, mentorship, and coaching to team members.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, program management and systems engineering, to ensure a seamless product development process.

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related technical degree.
  • Proven experience 10+ years developing software solutions (C/C++).
  • Experience as a team leader or people leader.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead agile teams delivering modular and testable embedded SW components to successful product delivery.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and the ability to translate complex ideas into actionable requirements.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience with bench and/or vehicle testing domains.
  • Experience in software test automation (Linux/Unixshell scripting, Python, JUnit, GTest).
  • Experience with software containerization environments (Docker and Kubernetes).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to make informed decisions.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Familiar with embedded data recording for ADAS applications.
  • Experience with embedded C & C++.
  • Experience with Android, Linux, and/or QNX.
  • Experience with Cloud Computing (Microsoft Azure/AWS).
  • Experience with telecommunication networks and security.
  • Experience with edge, cloud, and IoT technologies.
  • Experience with Service Oriented Architectures and Microservice principles.
  • Familiar with major automotive vehicle systems.
