Workplace Status:
Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. This position requires an employee to be on-site full-time whenever assigned vehicles are in an active test. When assigned vehicles are not in active test, other assigned responsibilities may be conducted off site per the GM Work Appropriately policy.
The Role:
For our role of EMC Vehicle Test Engineer, you will have the opportunity to exhibit expertise and training of a senior engineer. This role manages most project responsibilities, rather than working on individual parts of a job. We want to add an individual to our team that is driven and independent because the work is less routine and involves significant decision making with minimal direction.

You will interact with engineering staff from various departments where you will demonstrate your knowledge, skills, and learning abilities. Strong communication skills are needed in this role to optimally communicate across our diverse teams. As an EMC Vehicle Test Engineer, you'll tackle various procedural tasks, as well as diagnose and solve unique vehicle performance and test process issues! This position supports the test and development of automotive electrical systems by ensuring that GM vehicles meet all global government electromagnetic regulations and customer performance expectations.
What You'll do (Responsibilities):
- Responsible for the vehicle level EMC testing of a global portfolio of GM vehicles.
- Complete all vehicle EMC testing by Validation Test Complete (VTC) date.
- Ensure vehicle hardware integrity prior to test. Coordinate with garage staff and vehicle owners to verify vehicle is "Test Ready".
- Review component test results when necessary to compare against vehicle results.
- Coordinate vehicle moves, tracking and scheduling.
- Complete timely and accurate test plans and provide test direction to technicians, specifying unique technical attributes of the EMC vehicle level testing to be conducted by EMC technicians.
- Investigate and document all test incidents, troubleshoot any deviations during testing and identify all critical issues prior to VTC.
- Communicate issues to Program Validation Engineer (PVE) and Design Release Engineer (DRE)/Supplier (engage EMC Component Engineer as required) on issues for troubleshooting and for development of potential solutions.
- Generate documentation in the Problem Resolution Tracking System (PRTS) including all supporting documentation (alert receiving DRE/Supplier prior to authoring PRTS).
- Document troubleshooting activities as part of final EMC report test data.
- Document all vehicle EMC testing in an Evaluation Report (ER) which will be loaded into the Global Document Management (GDM) system prior to the Validation Documentation Complete (VDC) of the vehicle tested. Alert the test report approver of completed report.
- Communicate and coordinate efficiently with PVEs and Milford Engineering personnel to specify vehicle content and procure properties for validation testing. Optimize testing by comprehending vehicle option mix and vehicle availability to produce the most efficient plan with reduced number of redundant tests. Balance timing and number of tests for right mix of test quality vs risk
- Ensure testing resources are comprehended (manpower & vehicles) in Program Content Change Requests (PCCR)s.
- Interface as needed with Global Product Development (GPD) BOM Family Owners (BFOs), EGMs, DREs, and PVEs at all GM Global Engineering Centers.
- Communicates, coordinates, and consults with various internal GM engineering departments and external suppliers.
- Design and assist in the execution of complex EMC test plans according to the various global EMC regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate and execute EMC Witness Testing to meet various global regulatory requirements.
- Design and establish GVBR (Global Vehicle Build Requests) to secure the pre-production vehicles necessary to meet EMC vehicle test objectives.
- Stays abreast of new EMC technology and test methodology.
- Travel as required (minimal).
Additional Description
What You'll Need (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Engineering degree
- 5+ years of engineering experience
- Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
- Demonstrated technical skills related to automotive electronics
- High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex
- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)
- Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Experience in the discipline of EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) engineering
