Workplace Status:
Hybrid - This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their primary location three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.
The Role:
The Electric Power Component Design Release Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, release, packaging, and maintaining electric power components, and resolving issues as they arise. The Electric Power DRE will collaborate with systems and performance teams to meet the power demands for all applications.
The ideal candidate is knowledgeable in low voltage electric power systems and participates in the latest low voltage technology for ICE, PHEV, and EV portfolio for all current and future programs. The ideal candidate should have strong problem-solving skills, and excellent communication skills. In this position you will be a fully qualified contributor who possesses a broad technical knowledge and understanding of low voltage systems and combined independent thinking and problem-solving ability to related work performed within their department. The selected candidate will support the design release of virtual and/or actual hardware providing an innovative diagnoseable power delivery system.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
- Oversee design and packaging of battery components.
- Work with designers to ensure interface and packaging compatibility both internally and externally.
- Work with other component owners to select appropriate designs.
- Work with manufacturing to ensure build ability and to determine quality requirements.
- Work to support manufacturing in root cause.
- Work with service to ensure serviceability.
- Support purchasing in sourcing of components.
- Oversee and support DFMEA and Design Reviews Based on Test Results (DRBTR).
- Track validation status and review results.
- Resolve all development and validation issues.
- Manage change control.
- Work with system engineers to execute low voltage systems that meet vehicle power load requirements.
- Provide and manage component timing plan.
- Execute and support Peer Reviews per program milestones.
- Work with component suppliers to meet design and timing objectives.
- Design/build scenarios according to requirements for testing or development, write automated testing scripts, and ensure a fully validated robust and efficient solution based on key imperatives / requirements at the component and system level.
- Perform correlation studies comparing simulation to vehicle data.
- Ensure execution of simulation test cases and create reports to the project team and support/approve other virtual team simulation including electrical simulation for functional performance and 3D math modeling to study packaging of components, surrounding interfaces, FEA or modal analysis.
- Follow up with local test results, build virtual test scenarios from failed cases to support functional controls/hardware design development.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's of Science Degree in electrical, chemical, or mechanical engineering
- 5+ years of experience
- Technical writing ability to create written engineering evaluation reports
- Ability to read, interpret and generate engineering drawings and specifications
- Experience in using simulation software such as CarSim and Prescan, Saber, Simulink, synopsys, or experience in general simulation testing (MIL, SIL, HIL, VIL, etc.)
- Time management skills to meet agreed upon customer deliverables, able to manage multiple projects
- High level of analytical ability where problems are complex
- Proficient computer skills including analyzing data, creating presentations
- Interpersonal styles and communication skills to work effectively with local and international team members
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters Degree
- 5+ years' component release experience with a major automotive OEM
- Experience with GM part number creation and change management
- Good analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex
- Knowledge of design for manufacturability and low-cost manufacturing of electrical devices
- Ability to read system engineering schematics and understand electronic / electrical functionality
- Knowledge of vehicle serial data communications (CAN, GMLAN, LIN,) and electrical architectures (Class 2, Common Architecture, Global A, and Global B)
- Experience in troubleshooting hardware anomalies using big data analytics to help root cause complex electric power issues
- Knowledge of microcontroller architectures, memory technologies, and programming
