Description
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren - GM Global Technical Center three times per week, at minimum or other frequency dictated by the business.
Cost Engineer with strong analytical skills and a passion for innovation to support the development of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) electrical architectures. This position is part of the PPCO - Advanced Vehicle Technology Cost team and plays a key role in improving the cost competitiveness of emerging vehicle safety and automated driving technologies.
A Cost Engineer is responsible for building detailed cost estimates for both hardware and software systems, capturing material, tooling, and engineering development efforts. They will collaborate closely with engineering, purchasing, program management, and global teams to identify cost improvement opportunities and help guide strategic decisions that align technology with business goals.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop ground-up cost models, accounting for materials, purchased components, labor, investment, tooling, and SG&A, and profit to estimate true component cost.
- Analyze data to identify key cost drivers and technology trends in ADAS, and use those insights to support long-term supplier sourcing strategies.
- Work with Global Purchasing and Supply Chain (GPSC) teams to create fact-based cost positions that improve supplier negotiations.
- Apply engineering and manufacturing process knowledge to ensure cost estimates reflect current economics, supporting program targets from development through launch.
- Support Design-to-Cost and Design-First efforts, identifying cost-effective engineering trade-offs early in the product development cycle.
- Visit supplier facilities when needed to evaluate manufacturing efficiency and verify supplier Request for Quote (RFQ) submissions.

Additional Description
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree
- 2+ years of experience in cost estimating, manufacturing, product design, engineering, automotive purchasing or related
- Ability to evaluate and quantify cost implications of technical ADAS solutions and summarize insights clearly for cross-functional teams.
- Strong interest in emerging automotive technologies and how they affect cost, safety, and customer experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, engineering, economics, business administration, or a related field of study
- Automotive OEM or Tier One supplier experience in engineering or launch support preferred.
- Advanced degree.
- Strong project management and multitasking capabilities with a high degree of autonomy.
- Demonstrated experience navigating ambiguity and delivering cost clarity in rapidly evolving tech spaces.
- Ability to lead without authority and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
- Familiarity with regulatory and functional safety requirements for ADAS.
