Work Arrangement :

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Pasadena, California on a full-time basis.

The Team:
Our Studio Engineering team is seeking a highly motivated engineering student that will work on innovation initiatives at our Advanced Design Studio and will co-develop projects to enable future technologies and products aligned with General Motors Zero Zero Zero vision.

This position offers a unique opportunity for interns to gain hands-on experience in innovative engineering solutions and work with a multi-disciplinary team.

What You'll Do:

  • Support engineering feasibility studies and create basic physical and math models, supporting vehicle concepts.
  • Application of First Principles Engineering supporting multidisciplinary project ideation and development.
  • Create and facilitate engineering requirements to support the Design Studio.
  • Develop occupant packaging studies in support of new vehicle concepts.
  • Apply Design Thinking to create innovative solutions - Identify pain points, define metrics for success, participate/lead brainstorming sessions, develop alternatives and select technical solutions.
  • Develop proposals to resolve issues.
  • Work with creative designers, modelers, other engineers, and fabrication personnel in the development of a variety of studio properties (scale model, digital model, proof of concepts, etc).

Additional Description

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree or Master's degree in: Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering Technology, or Aerodynamics/Aeronautical/Aerospace Enginering
  • Knowledge in CAD software (NX preferred)
  • Must be graduating on or after December 2025

  • Knowledge in Unigraphics (NX)
  • Knowledge in FEA analysis.
  • Strong interest in Automotive Engineering and Creative Design.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and lead a team to consensus when needed.
  • Demonstrate a high-level analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult.

Start dates for this internship role are May & June of 2025.

Compensation:

  • The salary range for this role is $4000- $6100 monthly, dependent upon class status and degree.


  • GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2025 Student Program.
