Global Purchasing and Manufacturing Services (GP&MS) / Packaging Optimization:
Join the Packaging Optimization team and become part of one of the most dynamic and innovative organizations within General Motors. Our mission is to provide GM with a competitive advantage through exemplary services and solutions.
As part of the Packaging Optimization team, you will be interacting with industry leaders, attending cross-functional events, and volunteering for community service activities. You will gain valuable work experience in one of the following areas:
- Global Aftersales Packaging Engineering
- Global Aftersales Packaging Procurement
- Global Aftersales Supply Chain, Warehousing & Logistics
Responsibilities could include, but are not limited to:
- Supporting the complete packaging development process including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing
- Fixing new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials, processes and providing creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions
- Analyzing engineering drawings and specifications of product to resolve physical characteristics of item, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging
- Evaluating and selecting packaging suppliers / vendors; periodically conducting vendor reviews
- Handling multiple projects simultaneously
- Working closely with global suppliers, engineering, product management, operations, and sourcing
- Participating in product introduction teams to deliver new products to market
Note that this position requires being on-site on a full-time basis (processing center, the lab, or a supplier location).
Additional Description
Required Qualifications:
- Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Packaging Engineering or related fields
- Must be graduating between December 2025 and June 2026
- Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week

- Demonstrated leadership in field of study, extra-curricular activities, or service organizations
- High level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity and innovate
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet goals in a fast-paced environment
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization
- Proficient in Excel for data analytics and BI software for data visualization
- Desire to learn new tools/methodologies
Start Dates:
- Start dates for this internship role are May & June of 2025.
Compensation:
- The monthly salary range for this role is $4,400-$4,900, dependent upon class status and degree.
- GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2025 Student Program.
