Job Summary
The Respiratory Therapist – DME is responsible for providing respiratory care and managing the distribution and maintenance of durable medical equipment (DME) for patients. The role involves assessing patient needs, educating patients and their families on the use of respiratory equipment, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.Job Duties
- Consistently performs and documents thorough patient assessments.
- Establishes appropriate care plans by evaluating patients’ respiratory needs.
- Setting up and maintaining respiratory therapy equipment such as CPAP and BIPAP machines, Instructing patients on the use and maintenance of respiratory therapy equipment.
- Compliance follow up: Making calls to ensure patients are adhering to their prescribed therapy.
- Resupply management: Handling requests for additional supplies and placing orders as a needed.
- Mask fittings and exchanges: Ensuring patients have properly fitting mass and facilitating exchanges when necessary.
- Tracking patient progress and compliance with therapy and documenting all interaction and interventions.
- Maintains effective communication with patients and healthcare providers about patient care, compliance, and pressure settings.
- Provides appropriate, age-specific, patient and family education as it relates to disease management.
- Adheres to regulatory requirements and safety standards.
- Adheres to institutional and nationally established standards of care.
- Maintains the confidentially of patient information according to established internal and external specifications and regulations including release of information and HIPAA.
- Functions as a preceptor for orientees.
