Job Summary

Perform, under the responsibility and supervision of the physician, diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to establish a diagnosis and to plan therapy. Assist in gathering the data necessary in implementing the therapeutic plan of the physician. Act as a patient advocate in the medical care system serving as confidant, advisor, and liaison between the patient and physician.

Job Duties

We are adding an Advance Practitioner to our Trauma Surgery team at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

  • Advanced Practitioner-run clinic time two days a week
  • Opportunity for first assist OR available.
  • Work schedule consists of thirteen (13) twelve-hour shifts a month.
  • Current team consists of seven (7) other Advanced Practitioners.
  • Limited weekend coverage.
  • Minimal call coverage.
  • Ability to work closely with residents.
  • Performs initial assessment and triage of patients based on information obtained pertinent to presenting condition.
  • Keeps track of pertinent procedure and laboratory results, discusses with physician, and returns call to family and patient regarding the results and plans.
  • Assists with arranging appropriate follow-up for the patients.
  • Answers and returns phone calls from established patients and their families and assess the needs of patient and family.
  • Discusses plan with the physician and relays information to the family and patient.
  • Obtains or assists in the preauthorization process for medications, diagnostic studies, and treatments which the employee is qualified to perform.
  • Screening patients.

Education

Master's Degree-Physician Assistant (Required), Master's Degree-Nurse Practitioner (Required)

Certified Nurse Practitioner - American Academy of Nurse Practitioners; Certified Physician Assistant - National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA); Basic Life Support Certification - Default Issuing Body
