Job Description Summary
The Compressor Airfoils Staff Operations Leader for the Rutland Toolroom will lead the cultural and fulfillment metrics of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost (SQDC) for the business unit and ~140 total employees.
Responsible for all aspects of in-house tool manufacturing, maintenance, development and testing activities to ensure the business objectives are met, to maximize productivity and maintain the highest levels of workmanship for all tooling activities. Lead and co-ordinate resources within the Tool room to ensure all tooling are produced efficiently, on time and in line with quality standards ensuring that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to. Implement and maintain a production planning system to support 3 production areas. Manage the team on technical best practice and establish standard policies and procedures whilst also mentoring and leading the team. Implement and manage continuous improvement and modern manufacturing principals by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices and processes.

This role reports directly to the Rutland Plant Leader and is a staff level position within the GE Aerospace Rutland organization supporting two facilities in the Rutland area.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- In this role, you will have full responsibility to ensure tools & gages are manufactured with the appropriate safety, quality, delivery, cost (SQDC) hierarchy. In addition, the Toolroom Leader will:
- Foster an environment focused on customer service & support of our production manufacturing businesses.
- Supervise tool room staff, including scheduling, training, and managing performance.
- Oversee all work through the tool room efficiently and cost effectively and ensure that all target dates for tooling are met.
- Manufacture new tools from technical drawings to a high level of workmanship and in an efficient, cost effective manner
- Work closely with production departments to understand their tool requirements and ensure timely availability.
- Maintain and/or implement a business prioritized critical need tooling repair processes.
- Champion continuous improvement. Mentors and trains others in lean culture and tools. Demonstrates servant leadership and fosters a bottom's up organizational structure.
- Seeks industry best practices and improvements for the manufacturing/design of production tooling to maintain the site Center of Excellence position.
- Partner with the plant Quality team on short and long-term gaging strategies.
- Lead rigorous Daily/Weekly/Monthly Management System and Problem Solving ensuring we meet key KPI's across Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Inventory, and People.
- Ownership for the Toolroom teams budget including: adherence, cost-out actions, and utilizing the appropriate Problem Solving process to address gaps.
- Responsible for critical execution for NPI, and new equipment installation project schedules.
- Partners with the facilities and engineering teams to plan critical spares, single points of failures.
- Demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for identified model business unit(s)/areas
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Manufacturing, quality improvement, people leadership (Including experience in Lean methodology and/or Six Sigma tools; ability to drive improvement strategies while coaching leaders through problem solving techniques)
Desired Characteristics
- Safety First approach in leadership. Demonstrated success influencing EHS teams through an employee led daily management system. Develop and implement EHS risk mitigation strategy focused on engineered solutions and regulatory compliance.
- Knowledge and experience with the design and manufacturing of precision Tooling for the production of aviation hardware. Tooling could include forming dies, trimmers, precision fixtures and gaging.
- Develop outside suppliers of precision Tooling to supplement the capacity of the Rutland Toolroom
- Develops a collaborative approach to customer delivery & tie what is needed to build/repair to support customer demand.
- Build sustainable supplier partnerships with improved forecasting, capacity planning and joint key performance indicators (KPI's). Invest jointly in the people, process, and technology to enable sustained safety, quality, delivery, at a competitive cost.
- Collaborate with the compressor airfoils value stream in the development of financial operating plans and budgets aligned with the annual and long-range budget review.
