Job Description Summary

Develops and documents tool designs for both development and production hardware for aerospace products such as ignition exciters, high tension leads, igniter plugs and sensors. This would include all sub-assemblies involved with these parts.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Designs tools and fixtures for production hardware and associated sub-components for aircraft applications.
  • Experience, understanding and application of Geometric Tolerancing Methodology (GD&T), geometry, trigonometry
  • Performs analytical calculations necessary for designing tooling and fixtures (tolerance stack-ups, fits, torque requirements, thermal expansion at various temperatures etc.)
  • Layout, measure, and mark metal stock, measure/examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specs, using precision instruments, e.g. micrometers
  • Understanding of product design and processing to aid in definition of required tools / fixtures and materials to be used
  • Willingness to assist and be a training resource
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all the basic machining tools and many specialized and advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations such as CNC machine, EDM, etc.
  • Apply metallurgy concepts such as determining the correct hardness and alloy requirements
  • Ability to lead and influence various technical personnel to find root cause of equipment failures and then follow-up with improvements
  • Installation of repaired or new parts into equipment, mount attachments or tools onto production equipment, install mechanical components in production equipment
  • Assist in the assembly of experimental hardware to help optimize the manufacturing process.
  • Ensures design will conform to application stresses
  • Work with Manufacturing, Production and NPD Manufacturing Engineering and Design Engineering across sites to assure that design producibility is achieved in a production environment
  • Assist in the assembly of experimental hardware to help optimize the manufacturing process
  • Must be familiar with a variety of manufacturing processes - welding, brazing, assembly, machining, etc.
  • Ability to develop tooling designs from piece parts, assembly prints and solid models
  • Manage tool request workflows and tooling databases.
  • Procure necessary material to execute tooling builds
  • Support and/or participate in 5S practices and Lean activities
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work independently or in a group setting
  • Design solutions for EHS related actions
  • Ability to assist other areas when necessary

Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree or High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution
