About this Position

In this role, you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives to affect producibility and cost goals of turbine components by executing engineering work across the Defense Engines products. Your activities will contribute to the redesign for Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost of across the CT7, T700, T408, F404, F414, and F110 product lines.

In this role, you will identify/integrate/develop existing and new processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within your functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business initiatives.

This may include activities which drive technical improvement of existing products and components. Your role impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of the team and as such you will have significant input into team priorities. Your role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. Includes the design and analysis of turbine components (airfoil blades, nozzles, and shrouds).
  • Provide technical guidance to other personnel and assigned teams, mentor others.
  • Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical requirements, schedules, and contract commitments.
  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
  • Develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems.
  • Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments.
  • Lead or participate in organizational efforts in assigned projects and/or tasks.
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in design engineering or similar role

Desired Characteristics

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with design of turbine components
  • Complex component, module or systems level analysis and/or hardware expertise, particularly regarding change management of design.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to guide, mentor and influence others.
  • Demonstrated expertise in design and/or analysis tools, such as Unigraphics/NX and/or ANSYS.
  • Experience and familiarity with GD&T principles and reading drawings.
  • Experience in manufacturing, especially high-precision, turbomachinery components.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in coordination and collaboration.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to be comfortable in front of varying levels of audience.
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
