As a Staff Engineer - Mechanical Preliminary Design at GE Aerospace, you will lead all mechanical aspects of preliminary engine design, including new technology methods, architecture trade studies, and driving feasibility, weight, and cost targets. You will be accountable for developing innovative preliminary design concepts that meet aggressive cost and performance targets for next-generation engine applications. This role focuses on supporting advanced commercial programs, guiding architecture choices, and influencing technology investments with a high level of independence.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead preliminary design architecture studies, including cost roll-ups and technology assessments.
  • Develop and integrate new solutions and parametric tools for design optimization.
  • Challenge current processes, anticipate problems, and create innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to shape design, weight, cost, and maintenance strategies.
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect intellectual property.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to teams, ensuring proper documentation and communication of project status.
  • Lead or participate in technical and program reviews.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a mechanical engineering position.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering.
  • Experience in mechanical engineering, supply chain, sourcing, or manufacturing operations.
  • Experience with weight, cost estimation, and design parameters in early engine development.
  • Proficiency in Unigraphics NX.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Experience leading global cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems and demonstrate systems thinking.
