Job Description Summary
The Edison Works Military Material Systems Section plays a critical role in the development, industrialization, and production of ceramic, polymeric, and metallic materials and hardware for Edison Works' military products. As a Senior Materials Behavior Engineer you are responsible for the design and execution of materials property test programs to understand the behavior of these materials applied across the full life cycle of engine development and service life.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Apply Materials Behavior expertise in material mechanical test program planning and program coordination with an emphasis on polymer composites and coatings materials
- Execute materials characterization and mechanical property test programs with the appropriate team(s) to deliver test data and generate design curves required to achieve program milestones
- Apply statistical and curve regression methodologies to generate and publish mechanical property design curves.
- Partner with internal and external lab specialists and technicians to meet customer program requirements and deadlines.
- Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions to meet both current and future business needs with respect to current and future material mechanical behavior.
- Provide technical expertise on product problems throughout the business including supplier and field support.
- Partner with materials application engineers, product line focals, design, and systems to provide material behavior support.
- Lead and provide key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact
- Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in own technical specialty to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs.
- Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues.
- Implement and maintain lean principles (daily management, standard work, etc.)

Qualifications/ Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in metallurgy, materials science, materials engineering, or closely related technical field from an accredited college or university
- Polymer Matrix Composite (PMC) materials experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering position
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
- Candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain US government security clearance
Desired Characteristics:
- 8+ years' experience with materials application engineering, materials development, and/or engineering program management
- 5+ years' experience With Polymer Matrix Composite (PMC) materials
- Strong leadership skills and experience
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously
- Existing DoD Security Top Secret or Secret Clearance
- Experience proposing new technical programs including budget and timing estimates
