Job Description Summary

As the Staff Data Engineer, you will be part of the DES Family. You will be responsible for accelerating the engineers of GE Aerospace through business analytics, actionable reports, and compelling data visualization. You will be responsible for managing business critical data engineering processes and data architecture solutions in order to enable analytical and reporting solutions. You will be responsible for analyzing and preparing the data needed for data science-based outcomes. Additionally, you will manage and maintain metadata data structures besides providing necessary support for post-deployment related activities. You will be accountable to deliver results in a timely manner using agile methodologies.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Design & build technical data dictionaries and support business glossaries to analyze the datasets.
  • Perform data profiling and data analysis for source systems, manually maintained data, machine or sensor generated data and target data repositories.
  • Design & build both logical and physical data models for both Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) solutions.
  • Develop and maintain data mapping specifications based on the results of data analysis and functional requirements.
  • Build a variety of data loading & data transformation methods using multiple tools and technologies.
  • Design & build automated Extract, Transform & Load (ETL) jobs based on data mapping specifications.
  • Manage metadata structures needed for building reusable Extract, Transform & Load (ETL) components.
  • Analyze reference datasets and familiarize with Master Data Management (MDM) tools.
  • Analyze the impact of changes to downstream systems/products and recommend alternatives to minimize the impact.
  • Derive solutions and make recommendations from deep dive data analysis proactively.
  • Design and build Data Quality (DQ) rules.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university or college with minimum of 4 years of professional experience OR associate's degree with minimum of 7 years of professional experience OR High School Diploma with minimum of 9 years of professional experience
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in Computer Science or "STEM" Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
  • Note: Military experience is equivalent to professional experience

Eligibility Requirement:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job.
  • Hands-on experience in writing SQL scripts for Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL or HiveQL.
  • Understanding of the GE Aerospace data ecosystem (Data Lake, DOS, schemas, dependencies, security, etc.)
  • A proactive approach to identifying and remediating data quality issues.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Exposure to industry standard data modeling tools (such as ERWin, ER Studio, etc.).
  • Exposure to Extract, Transform & Load (ETL) tools like Informatica or Talend.
  • Exposure to industry standard data catalog, automated data discovery and data lineage tools (such as Alation, Collibra, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience in programming languages like Java, Python, R Script, or Scala.
  • Experience leveraging AWS tools like Redshift, QuickSight, and SageMaker.
  • Experience with Big Data / Hadoop / Spark / Hive / NoSQL database engines like Cassandra or HBase.
  • Experience handling unstructured datasets in CSV, XML, or JSON file formats.
  • Experience performing data analysis to generate actionable visual summaries of data.
  • A good team player with self-driven execution capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly with cross teams.
  • Ability to showcase teamwork skills to achieve common goals, provide resolutions and share ideas.
  • Demonstrate the presentation and influencing skills.
