Job Description Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Staff Data Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of data solutions for Flight Operational Quality Assurance (FOQA) programs. This role involves working with complex flight data from systems such as DAR, FDR, QAR, ACMS, and across diverse fleet types (e.g., Boeing 787, Embraer 190, and Airbus A320). You will be responsible for building robust data pipelines, creating scalable mapping configurations, and developing automation tools to streamline FOQA data processing and analysis.
In addition to technical expertise, you will collaborate closely with airline customers, safety teams, and internal stakeholders to understand requirements, deliver tailored solutions, and provide actionable insights to improve safety and operational efficiency. This role requires a blend of deep aviation data knowledge, strong technical skills, and leadership to drive innovation and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

FOQA Data Management:

  • Build and maintain data pipelines for flight data systems (DAR, FDR, QAR, ACMS).

• Create and optimize mapping configurations for various aircraft types (e.g., Airbus, Boeing, Gulfstream).

Customer Collaboration:

• Work with airline customers to understand data needs and provide tailored solutions.

• Translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

Automation Development:

• Design and implement tools to automate data ingestion, mapping, and validation.

• Streamline workflows and improve process efficiency.

Data Analysis and Insights:

• Analyze flight data to identify trends, anomalies, and metrics.

Quality and Compliance:

• Ensure data meets aviation standards and regulatory requirements.

• Test and validate data pipelines to maintain high-quality outputs.

Travel Readiness:

• Willingness to travel to customer sites, industry events, and training sessions as required.

• Ability to build strong relationships with global customers through in-person collaboration and support.

Team Collaboration and Mentorship:

• Work with internal teams to integrate FOQA solutions.

• Mentor junior engineers and share expertise.

Innovation and Improvement:

• Explore new technologies to improve FOQA processes.

• Continuously enhance tools and methods for scalability.

Documentation and Training:

• Document processes, configurations, and tools.

• Train internal teams and customers to optimize FOQA programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or "STEM" Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) with a minimum of 8 years of experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of flight data systems (DAR, FDR, QAR, CVR) and aviation standards (ARINC, IATA, ICAO).
  • Strong customer focus with the ability to gather requirements, deliver tailored solutions, and build relationships.
  • Leadership skills with experience mentoring, managing projects, and collaborating across teams.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites for collaboration, training, and support.
  • Innovative and proactive in problem-solving, with attention to data accuracy and compliance.
  • Proficiency in Python, PowerShell, SQL, and R for data processing and automation.
  • Experience developing automation tools to streamline workflows and improve efficiency.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Knowledge of flight data visualization and FOQA software tools.

The base pay range for this position is $127,900 to $170,500. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/ commission based on the plan. This posting is expected to close on March 14, 2025.
