Job Description Summary
GE Aerospace Research Center is an industry leader in thermal and cold spray processing. As a specialist in the Coatings team, you will be responsible for setup and execution of spray coating operations and will contribute to the research and development of thermal and cold spray processing for a wide array of current and future GE Aerospace products. Your responsibilities will include learning and operating our spray booth to support daily operations, robot programming, and post-processing of parts.
Job Description
You will:
- Acquire comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all aspects of spray booth operations, including metals processing, FANUC robot programming, and post-processing of materials, while adhering to safety protocols.
- Oversee the daily operations of the spray booth, including but not limited to procurement of supplies and consumables, schedule preventative maintenance and report monthly powder usage to EHS.
- Perform and support all duties related to preparation and post processing of parts.
- Collaborate with trades and other spray booth specialists, and take responsibility for responding to system alarms, including occasional after-hours responses.
- Conduct basic characterization tasks, such as microscopy.
- Engage and pursue invention and patent opportunities when appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- BS or Master's in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering or related discipline with thermal spray experience preferred or equivalent demonstrated knowledge
- Experience in thermal spray processes and tool path planning
- Proficiency in understand and troubleshooting of spray booths including operation and programming of FANUC robot environment
- Demonstrated passion for hands on work
- Ability to adapt to new processes and work with diverse, high-paced teams
- Willing to work government funded programs

- Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:
- Experience in setting up and performing complex thermal and cold spray coating operations
- Have a basic understanding or knowledge of metallurgical and mechanical characteristics of coatings
- Experience in metal processing and heat treatment operations
- Perform diagnostics on processing equipment, robots and other relevant equipment in spray booths
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to new processes
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems
- Excellent communication skills
The base pay range for this position is 60,000 - 110,000 USD Annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary. This posting is expected to close on June 10, 2025
