  • Work hand in hand with the supplier development organization to identify and onboard new suppliers that can offer competition for key technologies

  • Identify future obsolescence risks, and work with engineering to proactively identify alternate parts and drive necessary design changes
  • Develop, own and drive the project schedule for each of these key projects, report on milestones, and provide updates at the Sourcing Operating Reviews and PCB
  • Pull together summaries of financial impact for these engineering projects that clearly show the long term benefit and increase the priority level
  • Support the team, and present necessary information, at technical reviews in order to obtain funding and resources for engineering projects related to purchased parts.
  • Support lean initiatives for sourcing that require engineering support (i.e. optimization of planner codes that are categorized by specific design characteristics)
    • Own the list of supplier requests (deviations / waivers) that require engineering actions, and work to drive solutions that prevent reoccurrence and reduce the number of supplier requests
      • Draft ECRs, and potentially ECs
      • Interface with design engineering & manufacturing engineering to streamline the completion of engineering changes related to purchased parts
      • Support CPMs with customer approvals as needed
    • Support weekly showstopper meetings and own any engineering actions related to purchase part shortages to help drive effective and quick resolution.
    • Potentially travel onsite to vendors when engineering support is required to evaluate a new source or address issues impacting production with a current source
    • Drive Anti-Counterfeit engineering actions with regards purchased items, such as writing test plans and evaluating test results
    • Support sanction and compliance reporting interfacing with design engineers for purchase part exposure
    • Act as the sourcing point of contact for GIDEP notifications, and drive any necessary response with regards to purchased parts
    • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
    • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
    • A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills. Provides informal guidance to new team members. Able to communicate across functions and product groups.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 7 years of experience in engineering).
    • Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience
    • This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

    Desired Characteristics

    • Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
    • Strong knowledge and background in electronic components or mechanical assemblies. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to support and execute supply chain policy/strategy.

    This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
